Engine: 2.9L EFI V6 (177CI), nothing real special here, it's all original.

The little 140 horse motor does an adequate job, thanks to deeper axle gears. No swap plans are currently in place at least until it's time is done. A 4.0L V6 is most likely to go in it's place when said time does come (which could be a ways off, the 2.9 still runs like it was new, still has excellent oil pressure, burns no oil (though the valve covers do seep a little onto the manifolds), and it'll get 22 MPG (hwy) too if I poke along at 55-60 or so.
Drivetrain: Mazda M5OD-R1 transmission,
4.0L clutch swap
Dual Borg-Warner 1350/1354 transfer case (117:1 crawl ratio),
HP Dana35 front axle w/ 5-760X u-joints, Warn 'jeep' hubs,
8.8'' rear (Explorer 31 spline) w/disc brakes,
5.13:1 gears,
ARB lockers
35x12.50R15 BF Goodrich Mud Terrain KM2 (currently)
15x8'' black D-hole steelies

Notes: 5.5'' lift (3.5 suspension + 2'' body)
*Skyjacker Jeep Cherokee coils
*Pro-Comp 64'' Chevy leafs
*Modified Superlift steering kit (K-link setup), 1.25'' DOM tierods
*Fox 2.0 shocks on extended mounts front & rear
*Front droop limit cable (single cable over frame to both sides limits total droop but not articulation... same function as center limit strap on a straight axle)

Slightly stretched wheelbase (+3'' rear, 1'' front)

Homebuilt rocksliders, bumpers, and rollcage (DOM tube)

3/16'' skid plate (belly plate)

Pacer 'Flexy Flares' rubber fender flares

Rear mounted dual battery setup
*Deka Marine Master (Maintenance-Free) (2)

2'' raised fuel tank (using space made available from the body lift)

Warn M8000 winch w/ synthetic rope

Home-built storage & camping unit/sleep platform with slideout for a 12V fridge

Bracket to support the Explorer 8.8" parking brake cable assembly. The Ex cables are shorter than the OE BII cables, so a new bracket was needed a bit further back on the frame.

Adapting the OE parking brake cable to the Explorer 8.8" cables. A couple pieces of the old cable hardware, some 1/4 - 20 nuts & threaded rod, and some pieces of steel welded together. The threaded rod allows adjustment of the cable tension.

The Mazda M5OD transmission next to the Mitsubishi FM146.
You can tell just by it's sheer bulk the M5OD is a bigger stronger tranny. The FM146 was removed after 170K because of a chattering noise in 5th gear. Found the rear output shaft bearing with ...

Swingout open, showing Hi-Lift jack (a shovel also goes above the jack).

No gas cans yet... With the little V6 that gives low-20s MPG, having extra cans hasn't become a huge priority yet (I'm already able to go farther on the factory 23 gal tank tha...
