AutoLamps & AutoDimming Brights
IF THE IMAGE IS TOO SMALL, click it.
I added AutoLamps to my '83 Bronco years ago, and then I deleted it at some point (I forget why). Now that I'm swapping bodies again, I've decided to add it back, and integrate it better this time. These diagrams show the factory wiring, and the modifications I intend to make, so it's cheaper, easier, more effective, and more functional.
The relays I'll use are common Bosch/ISO cubes & half-size relays. The control switch comes from a '90 Cougar. The Hi-Lo module comes from an '80 LTC. The AutoLamp module could have come from anything, but probably a '94 CV or Taurus. The bottom wiring diagram will allow me to use '93 Bronco headlight & multifunction switches.
The partial "Common H/L Switch & Relays" section of the top diagram can be overlaid on the other.
Note that each system (AutoLamp & AutoBrights) is almost failsafe. If either module fails, or the control, or the hi/lo relay in any way (other than short), or the auto relay coils fail, the headlights & parking lights will still work normally through the normal non-auto controls. If the auto relays' contacts fail, they can be removed & jumpered to entirely bypass that system. Simply removing the hi/lo relay disables that system.
