June 1999 - Mud n' More

Page 1 2

Mud n' More took place on a farm in Buffalo, MN. For more information on the event, visit the website. On the way up I was just waiting for a ujoint to go out on me as I had been feeling a vibration from the rear driveshaft for the week prior to the event. Somehow I made it. Brett on the other hand was having some bad electrical problems which he later found that the alternator and voltage regulator he had just bought were both bad. It felt like Jonah was with us because I was constantly jumping him whenever he'd turn his truck off.

The pit itself was bigger than I thought. It was located at the bottom of a hill, and there were definitely some deep spots. These spots engulged some big tire'd rigs that only the tractor could get out. There were 2 mud pits, one was more of a beginner mud pit that I had no problem going through. I tried a few spots on the deeper pit, this is when I realized that my tires are completely worthless in mud like this. I can't wait to buy swampers.

Once again, on the way home I blew out a ujoint. However this time I managed to toast 2 ujoints, destroy the double cardan joint, and the slip yoke siezed up as well. I had to drive home in front wheel drive -- quite an experience with a locker up front, and not something I recommend doing for fun. This probably lead to the recent death of my BW 1356 transfer case.
