5.8 / 351W, K&N FIPK custom air intake using a K&N FIPK inlet tube attached to the stock air-box with a K&N drop-in filter. MSD 6AL Digital ignition box w/ noise limiter to reduce voltage spikes. Ignition upgrade using Accel cap & rotor, & matching 300+ race wires plus a 47K Accel coil. A set of Autolite #24 plugs gaped at 55 & she runs smooth and strong! EDIT: (3/15/2013) I've since returned the timing from 13.5 to the stock 10 BTDC and re-gaped the plugs to 44 since mine is a 5.8 not a 5.0 to safeguard against any piston damage. Installed a set of Doug Thorley shortie headers with a new stock "Y-pipe" with 2.5" pipe and new stock cats to a 40 series Flowmaster. The truck has a few changes here and there but really just very well maintained with minor upgrades. Most sensors and valves replaced for peace of mind including all H20 hoses, timing belt, including oil cooler hoses, idler pulley, and belt tensioner. When I bought this truck I replaced all the emissions parts with new. Contrary to popular belief our rigs run better with the equipment and really don't notice a positive change when removed just the opposite since the computer gets it's signals and makes adjustments from it, plus it keeps the air clean, right SoCal? 9/11 Just torn the engine down to rid myself of some leaks. Replaced the oil pan gasket and put in a Melling H.P. oil pump and also replaced the timing cover gaskets as well as the chain and gears. Pulled the heads and sent them off to have a valve job, surface, and check for cracks. Replaced the head gaskets, intake gaskets, H2O pump, timing cover gaskets (highly recommend since they leak), and purchased a new torque converter from Ford to make the E4OD happy! I swapped in a Saginaw p/s pump and bracket off an '85 E150 and picked up the dual return p/s pump for a possible Hydro-Boost brake system later. Threw on a pair of new motor mounts and sent the harmonic balancer out to be re-built (Damper Doctor) and replaced the misfire sensor to be sure. Replaced all the ignition one more time and added a set of spark plug wire heat shields to keep the headers from super heating up the boots. I also installed a '95 Lincoln Mark VIII electric fan into the stock fan shroud and wired it up with a D.C.Control variable speed controller. Installed a 160 amp 3G alternator (RJM Industries) with a 175 amp fuse for protection. I finally installed a pair of Projector HIDs (Baja HID) with smoked lenses and matching marker and turn lenses and she lights up the road like a new Lexus RX400. I still want an Edelbrock 5.8 truck upper/lower intake for a little more mid-range torque but for now everything's running Great and stays nice and cool. |
Drivetrain: |
Dana 44 front w/4.56 gears open for now, '89 F350 8-lug full float Sterling rear w/4.56 & Limited slip, E4OD with a Trans-go shift kit, cooler, and an aux spin-on filter, Borg Warner 1356 electric transfer case but want to switch to a manual, Warn Premium manual hubs, new U-joints on 2 and a half inch shortened drive-shaft, drag link and tie-rods replaced and outers flipped to the top but want to switch to Ruff Stuff's Y link steering with 1 ton TRE. Also both sway bars removed. ball joints replaced 1/08 and D50 shaft upgrade for the D44. Energy Suspension urethane bushings used for axle pivots, radius arms, TRE caps. Just completely torn down and rebuilt the entire front end, painted and reassembled. I have almost everything I need for my 8 lug front brake swap just need the Chevy 3/4 ton spindles and calipers. |
Notes: |
Purchased my bronco in June of 2003 from a retired fire chief. It was his wife's vehicle and was used pretty much to play golf & to get her nails done. The top had never been removed and it was never off road hell I don't think the 4-wheel drive button was ever pushed. It spent most of the time in her garage and had only 79,000 original miles. I put a 2 and a half inch Rough Country lift on with rear leafs and ran it for 6 years and highly recommend it. I now have a Rancho 4 inch lift with extended arms with Rancho RSX shocks all around highly recommend them too but now run Bilstein 5100's and removed the steering stabilizer as well as both sway bars for more articulation off road. I also went up in tire size from 31x10.50x15's to 32x11.50x15's then when I put the 4 inch lift on I switched again to 33x13.50x15 Super Swamper LTB's balanced w/ Airsoft beads and now she's running 35x12.50x17 Pro Comp Extreme A/T's on Jeg's Soft 8 black steel rims and still balanced with the beads! My other upgrades will be lockers front and rear just not sure which yet. I have a Warn 8274 winch and matching Warn front bumper, plus a Smittybuilt rear tube bumper but I still need a pair of rock sliders. It's a never ending story $9k in my 74' F100 and $16k in my 77' F150 but this truck has fuel injection and a take off top so this one stays around awhile! A Bassani Y pipe may be in the future or I'll make my own and I am need a family cage, sprayed with Line-X, and a Softopper Soft top, one project at a time!! That's how it always starts. You have to own a Bronco (or any Ford) to understand....It's a Labor of Love!! |

Be careful when prying the tabs on both sides away to pull out the spout, they break easily. Pretty much the reason for the zip tie....the other sides missing! When you time...

If it loosens up it will flag a P1359 code, push it back in and either clear the code or it will do it by itself after two complete warm up/ cool down periods after it "Self ...
