I was browsing the internet for used Bronco's and found this Eddie Bauer for sale at a small used car dealer in Denver. I have a 1988 Eddie Bauer I have been driving for 10yrs now and she's getting a bit long in the tooth. Nothing at all wrong with it as I have taken good care of it thru the years. I have replaced just about everything on it except the motor so far. Everything is good on it. Steering, shocks, hubs, tires, brakes, complete cooling system, alternator and battery have all been replaced within the last 20,000mi. She's rolling on 185,000mi now. I've put over 105,000mi on it personally!
I saw this newer Bronco and decided it was time for a change. I bought it! Paid cash and had it delivered to my home. I realized there were problems with it driving into work. The transmission didn't like to shift into 3rd gear until I drove 5mi and the front end suspension needed work immediately as the front tires looked like they were ready to break off. The trans was working fine by the time I got to work. I called my mechanic and scheduled a complete checkup the next day.
The word from my mechanic was that the trans needed attention and the front end needed upper and lower ball joints and radius rod bushings. I scheduled a checkup with my transmission guy a block from work. He's been working on it a couple times now and has it shifting cold better, but wants it back after I get the front end fixed so he can drive it cold with diagnostics plugged in to it.
I'm not driving it to work. I'm driving "Ole Faithfull" the 88. It goes into the shop in 5 days for the front end work, then back to the trans shop after that.
If you saw this Bronco, you'd see why I bought it! It's 21yrs old and looks 1yr old as I have been told. It's been completely repainted with a 2 tone Dark Green metal flake and a kind of Champagne lower stripe. The top looks brand new! You should see the top on the 88! It has BF Goodrich 12.5 x33" ATF's on Dick Cepeck D2 rims. The seats have been reupholstered in Tan leather and all carpeting is new. The bottom of this rig is spotless! No dirt, no rust anywhere. The previous owner was a non smoker and this thing smells like new! HAD TO HAVE IT! My tranny guy says it's CHERRY!! HAHA! I like that! So the journey begins again... |
