Last year, I blew my 302 in my 1989 Bronco full size. Was all lined up to get the exact engine at the barely used auto parts place when they reallized they made a mistake and didn't have one. They sold me a 302 from a 95 Explorer instead and said it would be just fine.

Well one year later and the thing STILL doesn't run right.

It actually runs great and very strong for the first 20 miles. BUT, if I stop the engine for any amount of time up to say 4 hours, it goes to all heck like the timing is all screwed up and can never get it straight either.

Any idea's why this is happening?
Any idea's on what options I have here?

I didn't swap the cam shaft from the old engine but everything else (besides the block) got swapped.

Thanks and sure would appreciate an email back..

I'd pull the computer codes and see what's reporting. Seems to me that there'd be quite a few differences between the two. O2 sensors, and possibly a Mass Air sensor. Did you swap the engine computer as well?

Not sure if you found the problem but my old engine did the SAME thing.

I ended up changing the O2 sensor, throttle position sensor, plugs, wires, filters and what finally fixed the problem was changing the "fuel pressure" regulator. (go figure)

Also.... Make sure your battery connections are clean and solid. (including starter selinoid)
