My son had his rear disc brakes seals fixed 2 weeks ago. Today he sees grease all over the
back wheel drivers side. The mechanic calls and says 1100 bucks, that the whole axle
needs replaced. Why didn't they notice something when they fixed in 2 weeks ago. Could
they have messed with something that caused this problem to develop?

I had a similar problem with my 88 Ranger. The vent tube was clogged and as a result the rear-end built up pressure and all the gear oil was pushed out the axle seals and was trapped in the rear drum brakes. I just took the tube off and blew compressed air through it to clear it out. But I also had to take the axle shafts off and replace the seals and fill up the rearend with new oil. To take the shafts out you have to take the rearend oil pan off and take the c-clips off the end of the axle shafts and then they will just slide out. So you should check the vent tube and if it isn't clogged the mechanic must not of put the seals in right. If thats the case you can go back and demand they fix it.
