My 99 Crown Vic has some pinging or knocking while going uphill when the engine is warm and it is hot outside. The uphill doesn't have to be very steep to start the pinging. Going downhill or when idling, the engine runs great. Or when it hasn't warmed up yet, it runs great too!

I've already changed the spark plugs, used some Techron additive, changed the fuel filter, checked the air filter. I'm not sure if these other symptons are related but it also has a slight leak in the brake booster vacuum (which I intend to fix) but does not affect the braking of the car. And also, seems to be too much air in the gas tank. Gas spits up like I'm overfilling the tank, but when the tank is empty or nearly empty. Would either of these contribute or are they just unrelated problems?

And yes, I've tried the higher octane... I actually regularly use the 91 octane Chevron Premium since I bought the car in November. It was previously a City of Henderson civilian car.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

for the pinging it could be a number of things, but for the gas spitting back out. there is a ventilatoin box up by the front fender well or under your trunk that may be clogged up and your gas isnt gettin the right ventilation it should (evap problem)
