i recently bought a 2000 crown vic police. i bought it from a guy for cheap. it had a bad fuel pump. fixed that, he also said it had a bad lifter. i replaced all the lifters. it still makes the same noise. it still seems to run on 7 cylinders. the tick'n/ knock sound gets louder with engine revs. the oil pressure gauge is about 3/4ths toward the top. the car has 108,000 miles. no CEL. any ideas? |

Hey, I was told my litters where knocking too.. Turned out to be the radiator fan rubbing against the inside walls. Keep in mind crown vics tend to go threw some radiator fans, they are known for it. I would check that out since I recently thought that I had the same problem. If it is, don't use your AC cause your car will eventually overheat... My car is in shop right now putting in new radiator fan for $75, the fan cost me $211, although I found one on partsgeek.com for $117.
Also.. How much did it cost you to put in new lifters???, everything total???
I just need a general idea...
Thanks and good luck

Oh yeah... You also may try having a tune up for the misfires.. Usauly means spark plugs / wires are bad.. Getting a tune up will replace the old wires and spark plugs. It may have never been done on your car before.
Good luck |

sometimes coolant can find its way into your spark plugs with vics also if your gonna give her a tune up all you need is spark plugs your model year is direct ignition, cylinder 4 misfire is what was wrong with mine, just popped in some new plugs and she runs like a top.
All so a common problem with fule pumps in vics can be a loose ground wire, you should check that first before replacing fule pump, save alot of money that way. |

Up to and including 2001 Panther platform vehicles, the intake manifolds have proven to be defective over time. Have you taken your vehicle to a shop to have it scoped, including a power balance test done? This would help determine if the problem was ignition/spark related, or mechanical, such as a burnt valve.
The person who told you to replace your plug wires must be kidding, because your 2000 P71 Police Interceptor, has individual coil packs on each spark plug. Usually if one of them or a spark plug goes bad, it will trip a code in the PCM and cause your MIL, Malfunction Indicator Lamp, also known as the old check engine light, to come on.Since you don't have any codes, I suspect that you may have a camshaft or valve problem. A trip to a good repair shop who has a diagnosic computer analyzer/scope should save you from throwing money at a problem that doesn't exist, and help you locate the problem that you, yourself, may be able to repair. |

I have an 01 crown Vic. Recently when I would get on it hard it would misfire and run real rough for a few min when I stopped at a light but would go away. Well today it never went away. Codes say misfire on cylinder 24687. Changed plugs and coils still runs real rough. Changed camshaft position sensor and it didn't fix it. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.
