OK, I know this has been addressed before, but with conflicting answers. I have a 2000 EX 4x4 with factory ride height. Does anybody know for sure whether 285s will fit factory wheels without rubbing anywhere? Just bought the vehicle, and love it, but it'll be time for new rubber soon and I'd like to step up a size if I can without lifting the truck.

My 285s rub the hard plastic mud guard. I trimmed it a little and only get rubbing when turning while flexing the front end, such as pulling into a steep driveway. It is not severe, but it is irritating. I am the only X owner who seems to have this problem, so it may just be my X. Most guys say they have no rubbing whatsoever.

I've seen several X's with 285's that rubbed stock with spring compression when turning, not very often though so it was tolerable. I think alot of people who mount bigger tires just ignore the occasional rub which usually occurs at slow speeds and therefore is not inherently dangerous. The little spring lift packs for the front end of your X would let you use 285's without worry and they are relatively easy to install. They would also level it out. 285's are the max you can mount on your 7" rims and they are really supposed to get 8" rims. Good luck.

Got to this link and check out tire sizes and reccomended wheel sizes. This should give you a better feel for what reality is.

http://tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?make=BFGoodrich&model=All-Terrain+T%2FA+KO

I picked BFG AT's arbitrarily. Check for the tire you want to use. Actual sizes for the same specified tire vary from one manufacturer to the next.

I think that the user with the 305's also has V code front springs and 8 inch wide wheels. No way should you run 295's, 305's or 315's on stock rims. You can do it with 285's but they will wear prematurely in the center of the tread.

Try 285's with 8 inch rims and if you rub put on 3 inch hanger kit and some nice bilsteins on all four wheels. You'll be glad you did. Your truck will look and handle better.

I am running Nitto`s 305-70-16`s on MB Motorsport 16x8" rims on stock suspension with no rubbing at any time. Check the pictures.

Hmm. Well, I guess I'll stick with stock size when I go back. I don't want to change wheels, and don't really want to fool with even short lifts, either. 285s just would have been a "nice to have" anyway.

Not sure what is right, but I know a lot of guys run 285's without any rubbing. Even 295's and 305's although, I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable going all the way to a 305 on 7.5" wheels (I believe that's the rim width)

I'm going through the same thing, planning mine. I had just came across the new Nitto's and then came across Mongo's truck! Inspiring. 305's don't look too big at all, but he's also got more appropriate wheel width.

You should have no problem going to Discount or any tire store for that matter and have them mount the 285's and try the out in the shop. You'll probably find they will be fine!

OK Guys,

It seems like a lot of you have mounted larger tires that call for a 7.5 to 8.0 rim on the stock 7in rims.

Does this work OK?

I would also like to go to 285/75R16s but cant find any for the 7in rim.

Thanks,

I love my truck!

RS-TX,
I belive the difference is that you (and I) have the OEM hard plastic mud guards. While I don't want to remove these, if you did would your rubbing be gone?

P.S. What part of the mud guard did you have to trim?
