I have a question for all out there with the Hellwig Swaybar installed. I tried to put mine in the other night and I had a hell of a time. My question is with the endlinks. My leafsprings on the passenger side are in the way of using the same frame hole that the parking brake bolt uses on the driver side. I used the next hole up and everything seems to be fine. I was just wondering if anybody else had this problem. Also, I was wondering which holes of the adjustable endlink did people use. It seems I can fiddle around with it and pretty much get any combination to line up.

Thanks all!

I had the same issue and it works fine. An earlier post indicated using the combination of holes to make the link long enough for the ends of the sway bar to be basically parallel to the ground.

Thanks. I'll take a peek and bust out the bubble leveler.

I found that on my unlifted X, Hellwig's shortest assembly option for the drop link halves worked best .... and still could stand to be shortened some. I'm soon going to install a small (2-1/2") lift kit, and will re-assess the drop links at that time .... and will most likely weld the halves together.

My ONLY gripe about the Hellwig bar is the drop links do not attach INSIDE the frame rails like the Ford OEM units. But the Hellwig bar is so much more of a robust piece of steel ... and so much more effectice ... that my gripe is small.

watchintv,

I had the same problem. I lowered the passanger side tire which lowered the leaf spring. This allowed the bolt to go through the same hole as on the driver's side. I then raised it back up so that both sides were even. My end links are both on the closest setting. This gets the sway bar as close to parallel to the frame without trimming the end links. Thanks to E. Long for his pictures on the Hellwig install. It would have been very frustrating if I had to rely on the Hellwig instructions.

Thanks for all the help everybody. The swaybar is in place and it makes a world of difference. I did run into one issue where the passenger side bolt was too long and I ran out of thread. I had to add a couple of washers into it to make it fit nice.

Another happy Hellwig customer. I won't know if the anti-sway bar does all I'm hoping for until next week when I get to cross railroad tracks at 50 mph. Handling around town and in curves was almost...sporty. Well, at least as sporty as 3.5 tons can be. Definitely work $150 and 3 hours time!

Unless you're crossing those railroad tracks while cornering, the sway bar won't help you in that situation. I installed the Hellwig sway bar on my X, and it does what it's supposed to do real well ... reduce body roll. If you're concerned about the bouncy feeling you get when crossing railroad tracks, the sway bar does nothing for that, but I offer another improvement. Check out the following link ...

I'm not allowed to discuss them over on the FTE website because it's a violation of their website guidelines (THANK YOU SuperFord.org for REAL 1st Amendment rights). The X suffers from an ailment called "spring wrap," and always will unless much heavier leaf springs are installed, or the leaf springs are omitted entirely (which is often done when lifting the X into the stratosphere).

Feel free to write to me if you have any questions.

Maybe Motorhaven will buy a few from you and re-sell them! I know I'll be buyin' a set when my new Excursion comes in!

Not sure what the 1st Amendment has to do with it though. FTE is a private site.

Even E-bay charges you to put things on their site and also has rules as to what you can say... I'd be cool if you sold them through this site so that some profit would help ease the bandwidth costs to Superford.org.

*Available ONLY at FordExcursions.com* Sounds cool, huh?
