I have a 2000 Ford Excursion with the 6.8L V-10. I want to replace the stock exhaust with a good sounding exhaust, but I have no idea what brand to purchase. What are some of the better sounding systems, and what should I stay away from. I would like more sound, but I do not want the loudest pipes known to man. Your input is greatly appreciated.

I had a Flowmaster 40 muffler on the stock tailpipe on mine. Very nice...

I've heard FM70s with dual outs on a v10 Ex. Didn't realize they were on there until the guy told me he had them...

Flowmasters will resonate though. Mine had a small resonance at 1700RPM. Noticeable but not objectionable.

I've heard resonable things about Gibson, too. Just isn't very loud though. Kinda the same as a FM70.

I would do just a muffler swap and save some $$ but that's just me...

I installed a MagnaFlow on mine. Has some sound, but more importantly (to my wife) allows it to breath without being obnoxious...

Plus the muffler guy I use said it flowed a little better than a Flowmaster...I don't know this for a fact, just what I was told????

My old car was a Yukon witha 5.7 and I put a Gibson catback "two out the side" system. It sounded sweet, but not obnoxiously loud and I defenitely felt a good power increase. They are very easy to instal, and the catback systems are all madrell bent and tuned so they are good quality. I don't know about on a Ford V10 because I bought my truck with a Borla already on it but, I liked the sound out of my GMC V8 better than with my Bolra on a V10 WHICH SAYS ALOT!

you might get it to sound louder..... but you'll never get it to sound like a V8. There is something very distinctive about that tone.

Has anyone put the Flowmaster 70 series mufflers on their Excursion? Is so, was it slightly louder than stock? The chart from Flowmaster shows the 70 series 3" mufflers are slightly louder than stock (70 series are the most quiet from FM), but I would love to here from someone who has a set installed on their X. I want more sound, but I want to keep it reasonable.

KEN (Monsta)
How loud was the FM40 in your X? I tow and sometimes for long periods and if it drones in the X I cant have that. I had one on the conversion van and when we got to Savanna Ga. I had them burn it off!!!

Want a different sound? Try an Aero Turbine. Free flow is an understatement. It'll bark like a dog and purr like a kitten. I'm working on getting a sound clip for all to hear.

Oh, and you only have to do a muffler swap, the V10's have 3" exhaust and you can get a 3" in and out aero turbine. Check it out at www.aero-turbine.com

Ken,

Thank you for the tip on aero-turbine mufflers. I talked to them and they are claiming 12-14% increase in HP/Torque/Fuel economy. Can you support that claim? Is it louder inside/outside - I would like to hear your recording when you can post it?

Thank you, Richard from Knoxville,Tn
