I took my '04 in for the latest reflash, not because I noticed any drivability issues but because it seemed like the thing to do. Well, the service department just called to say that they need to replace the injectors. I asked how we went from a simple reflash to replacing injectors and was told that the reflash didn't fix the problem with the engine and the next step is to replace the injectors. Am I just being paranoid, or does this sound fishy to anyone else? Has anyone else had this done on their 6.0L? The truck seems to run fine, but then again I'm not nearly as familiar with the Powerstroke as I am with the Triton. Oh, BTW the truck only has 8940 miles on it. |

Personally, I have never, ever found a dealer that I could trust. I'm just off from spending $483 to finance their search for a problem that was only a bad alternator, then they wanted to charge $360 to replace that. I pulled the Ex from their shop and won't go back. You don't want to finance their mistakes.
Injectors are expensive. I say either get them to commit to putting the old injectors back and refund $$ if the problem doesn't go away with the new ones, or get a 2nd opinion. Nobody that I know can afford Ford service. |

SOunds like your getting the december dealer screw job. They will just take your motor apart and replace all sorts of crap and bill ford for the maintenance work. November was slow in the shop and they need work to do. Your rig is a guinee pig and probably has nothing wrong with it. I would trust a crack head with my Ex in december over a dealership. Most dealers are notoriously slow in november and december, the shop is exceptionally slow during this time. And, If they can bill ford for the work they are just going to run up the tab on warranty stuff. I know 3 good freinds of mine at 3 different dealerships, same story across the board.
They will do things like, instead of drilling out a stuck O2 sensor they will replace the entire manifold. When say in april or may they will just cut it off and drill it out to save time, they dont want to wait for the part and give up flat rate.
just my .02 pennies. |

However, he said his is an '04.
What's the build date of your '04? I didn't think there were any reflashes for the '04 refreshed 6.0 so I'd guess it's a very early '04.

I thought all the '04's were "good to go" or so Ford claims. After August of 2003 they were suppose to be trouble free, it's the 60,000 6.0's built prior to August that needed the reflash.
Way to go Ford.

My '04 was built 8/16, so the engine could be a hold over from '03. If I really need new injectors, then it has to be done. However, I'm not getting the "warm fuzzies" from the thought of having everything torn apart then put back together. It seems like there are always annoying litle problems after major surgery like that.
Again, not knowing how these engines are supposed to perform leaves me unsure about whether there really is something wrong. The tech took mine out for a ride with some sort of diagnostic computer plugged into it and told me something was not kicking in the way it was supposed to.
After reading the BON link above, I think I might have them show me the part number on my injectors before I let them go ahead with the replacement.
I just can't stand the though of someone messing with my ride for no good reason.
Thanks for the replies.

As of latey (week or so), I have been having a number of problems with my 7.3 x, and one of them DYING!!! It feels like its "choking". I was thinking the deisel wasn't getting any fuel! Now that somebody has mentioned something about injectors (my initial thought), maybe that is my problem. Once again, then truck will be at holiday ford lincoln mercury first thing monday!

Just from what you described and from what I have read on this forum, there are 2 things I would check - Throttle Position Sensor and the Cam Positioning Sensor (I could have the names mixed up).
