Has anybody used the factory deck when upgrading speakers/soun. I am thinking of replacing all speakers on my 03 X limited, adding a couple amps, and building a custom box for a couple 10" subs. Any help would be appreciated. I want to keep the stock look, and I like the integration with the DVD, Steering wheel, etc... todd@brandtinsurance.com

Speaking of 6-disc factory stereo... has anyone noticed it has AM Stereo? How cool is that? I listen to WBAP on AM in the D/FW area (and beyaond) the majority of the time. They broadcast in stereo and it sounds way diffferent.

Todd,

I have the same thoughts on this that you have, the stock radio while not latest greatest is pretty good because of the hookup w/the dvd system. I will be adding new speakers, amp and subs as soon as I recover from Santa's visit . I want to put the subs in a box that looks like the spare tire, no need for the tire as a flat happens AAA will be coming to get me w/their nest flat bed

Anyone know of a manufacturer of the speaker box I mentioned, I remember seeing it in someone's posting but can not find it

Thanks

Raymond,

That is exactly what I was thinking. The stock deck, while it will be the weakest link in a new sound system, will do the job I assume. I am either going to build custom enclosures in the rear doors, or build a custom enlosure replacement spare tire sub. After research, I don't think either can be purchased, but have to be custom built. Does anyone has information on where to purchase either, or have tips on how to build your own rear cargo door sub enclosures?

I am thinking we should be fine.... The stereo shop I deal with did one in this manner, it was a '00 but the owner wanted to keep the stock look, truck sounded damn good!! I had thoughts of going that route when I had my '00 but wanted another head unit

Hoping it will work considering the factory dvd system is now a part of the package

What are you considering for the upgrade? I am trying to decide between Rockford's, Sony Explod's or JBL's for the speakers, amp and sub's... Will see if anyone has a package for the stuff when I get ready

I believe the Rockford Power series is good, I am debating on either the Boston Acoustic SL80's or the MB Quart component speakers as a replacement, and most likely the Phoenix Gold Titanium subs. Probably will power everything with Phoenix Gold amps. I think I am set on replacing the spare tire with a sub enclosure, I am open to any suggestions or information at this point.

the best sub for the X is the JL audio 10 inch stealth box. THis unit slides in and under the center console. you lose most of the space but the bass is in front and awesome. total stealth install. $500 for the unit. and for you bigger is better types 10 inches properly ported and designed is ample for an X. just did my '03 like this and got blown away. for more info call rich's cartunes at 617-923-1490 and ask about the promotional X they just finished.
