Does anyone on here know how to use MS Acsess? If so, read on. If not, you may as well just stop here cause this probably won't make any sense anyway.

First, some background. I am completely self taught at Access....through trial and error. No books, no lessons....nada. So even though I may be able to do some slightly advanced things there are still numerous basic things I have no idea about.

So, if this sounds like a beginners problem you now understand why I can't do it.

Anyway, I'm trying to build a DB for an exercise program. In it there will be several (perhaps up to 17) routines. Each routine is broken down into the workout days. Each workout day usually has around 5-8 exercises. So, it might look something like this:

Routine 1------------------------Routine 2
Monday--------------------------Monday
Squat----------------------------Squat
45 degree leg press------------Leg lift
Sitting Calf Raise---------------Sitting calf raise
Standing calf raise--------------Standing calf raise
Stiff leg Dead lift----------------leg curls

Make sense so far? As it is now, I can only build a single table with all of that info in it. It has all of the headers necessary but for the squat in routine 1 I have one record. For the squat in routine 2 I have another record....and so on. So I end up having to build a record for each and every single exercise for every day and every routine.

What I would like to do is build a set of tables which will allow me to enter the basic exercises with the pertinent info into it (things like amount of weight, how many sets and reps..) into one table and the workout days into another and routines into another and so on. This way I can have one record for squats that is then somehow linked to the other tables so that the same record is used for all routines which have the squat in it. This would even simplify updates. As it is now when you change the weight in routine 1 the weight in routine 2 isn't changed for the same exercise.

Man, for those of you who know Access well this probably seems so simple to you. Sorry to sound like a simpleton.

Thanks for any help in advance.

I'd like to help but I know nothing (well not a whole lot) about Access and all that reading about exercising made me tired and hungry...Think I'll go have a banana split, watch some TV and go to bed...

He-he, when I read the title I thought you were talking about Microsoft.

Unfortunately, I am of no help to you, whether MS stands for Microsoft or Musculoskeletal. Good luck.

Actually Access is a very powerful program and can stiill do a lot of things very easily ....
I use it all the time for my month to month budget/payment tracking - just wrote a simple db that just keeps up with due dates and tells me how many I missed this month

Glad you got it...

Oh, um, yeah, so I was kind of right. Man, it was early. The LPD (Little Pink Dictator) and I had been up since 02:45 and I was not much sharper than a bowling ball. Funny infomercials at that time of the a.m.

Mikie,

Have you checked out the workout program/service that Men's Health magazine has online? I have been using it for a little over a month and it has made keeping track of my workouts, weights, reps, etc. much easier. Check it out

It has several different programs to choose from and adjusts according to your pace. Very cool. Love using it at home with the weight equipment I have.

Yeah, saw that one. Not at all what I need. This is a very progressive type of program and is actually very unconventional...goes against what a lot of folks have been taught for years. BUT, in all studies, trials and real world results it works better. Just one example...and my most impressive that's wny I'm using it....my decline bench went from 230 to 300 in three weeks. Not bad if you ask me.

I figured as much. As with all workout programs, results vary. I am quite pleased with the Men's Health online program...mainly because of the convenience of having it online and I don't have to do any of the thinking. Clearly you're more in-tune with your fitness/workout program. I on the other hand needed the guidance of an actual program and didn't want to leave it up to myself to create my own, potentially less successful plan.

It appears that you need to build two tables for each day of the week in which you work out. Go ahead and buid for every day of the week. With-in each table you can have selects from entering the data when building the table. For your form, simply use the TABS protion to develop for each day of the week, and possibly will have to build a sub-forms with each to have eactly what you want. Not sure of your VBA or SQL stsement skills, but this should be pretty easy.

HTH,
