I was tired of the low vis when backing up at night and loading the boat at night, so I added a pair of HID lights by pilot. 1" high X 4" wide. They have a remote so no long wire run to the back was needed. I tapped the power from the aux power adapter in the rear that was rated at the same load as the lights (15 amps). The wireing to the lights threaded out near the drain tube for the rear air and there was an existing hole to the back light assemble where I tapped the backup light wire to run a secondary relay purchased seperatly.

The wire run went inside the square tubing for the hitch and is concealed nicely. All of the wires and controls lie in the spare space in the jack compartment by the rear air unit. I can activate the lights at anytime with the remote or they turn on automaticly via the relay when it is in reverse. Wow what a deffirence at night.

The only thing left to do is install a door chime from a junk car to ding when the lights are on and put it in the jack compartment with the remote sensor. This will prevent the kids from turning them on during the day and me not realize it and running down the battery. If you have no need to have a them enguage without being in reverse (i.e. at a dark boat ramp when loading the boat) they could be done via the relay to backup lights only and they would only engage in reverse.

The remote was placed in the area by the front aux power adapter with sticky tape. It has its own little holster so it can be removed easly.

The whole project cost $50 and if you don't need the remote $40.

Pictures posted in my album.

Hope this might help someone. I have received lots of tips from here and wanted to contribute. This is my firt post. More to come on my lift/tires project in a couple of months.

Is there a URL to look at to see the light setup you're referring to?

Firebat -- looked at your photos, nicely done! Did a quick search for the lights you used but can't find them. Do you have any supplier, part # info handy? Thanks!

Chuck,
I bought the lights at Walmart. They are called Cyber White by Navigator. Part # NV-526W
If you get these, I point out that the wire harness was just long enough to run through the tubing. If it were a few inches shorter it would have been difficult to secure it to the frame properly so the most forward point you would want to bring it down through the compartment is at the drain tube any place rear of the should be a benefit.

Keven,
The pics are in my album. Click on my name in blue located to the left of my post. Then click vehicles at the bottom of my information in the new window that appeared. Click on the folder named light install. You can then select the pic you want to view

Well, I finally got around to installing the lights that Firebat suggested. Wasn't a particularly easy task but I'm really not an electrician kinda guy. First problem I had was with the cheap wire clamp devices that mimic the ScotchLok stuff. Couldn't figure out what was wrong because the lights wouldn't light up with the remote. Finally discovered that the ground connection wasn't good. Then I couldn't figure out why the lights came on as soon as the key was turned. Thought maybe the relay I bought was defective but it turned out that the nearest BK PK wire wasn't the same one called out in the wiring diagram as the reverse light power wire. Have no idea what it's for but it powers on with the ignition switch. Good to know I guess. Finally got it all done and now I can't wait for it to get dark so I can see how it works! (Yeah, they do work finally!)

Thanks again Firebat for blazing the trail.

Glad you got it done.
I love my lights at night and espeecially at the boat ramp and for pesky tailgaters.
It took me about 2 hrs total that includes a slice of pizza and 3 beers.

FIREBAT,

Your set-up looks great, thank for "showing me the light." I was looking at WallyWorld and saw some similar lights. Did you buy the remote and relay separately. Where did you get them and any part #s would be appreciated.

If you look further up in this thread you'll see the part number. That unit does have the remote included.
