just returned from a 1100 mile trip to sunny but cold florida in my 2000 v10 x 4x4. i have owned this truck for 1 year now. i have had vibration problems from the get go. took to ford early on and they said tires bad. took tire in to uniroyal dealer and they gave me 50% off 4 tires as 2 were bad but with 4x4 need to replace all 4. ride was much improved but after 2 balanceings and 1 replaced tire in first month for being out of round i still get the shakes. ALL I WANT IS TO RIDE DOWN THE RODE SMOOTHLY. currently she starts to shake a 60 then it gets better. 75 is best speed but as approach 80 it starts to shake.from 80-85 if i look at the passenger captain chair with no one in it it is shaking so bad that you can see over an inch of movement. drinks will spill if full. at about 85 i start to get a humming vibrating noise that is quite noticeable to add to the shake. it sounds like the thing is coming apart. will smooth out close to ninety but i hate going that fast as i might get a mini cooper caught in my grill and crack my grill. supposebly ford checked driveshaft for being straight when they greased the slip yoke as it was banging in rear when taking off from a stop.at the same time a year ago the speed sensor went out and had to have rear bearings replaced all under extended ford warranty. obviously the shake is in the whole truck to see the seats and drinks shaking violently not just in the steering. if i take it in and they dont find anything wrong then i pay for testing and would like to avoid that. im tring to remember what tires i put on. factory size bf goodrich long trail ta i think, pretty non aggessive road tire for the most part. put on monroe reflex a year ago as well. what the heck is wrong with this thing. any ideas. |

one more thing. it seems to ride smooth under power. if you just slightly have the gas on as you accelerate from 70 -80 it can be smooth sometimes but when you back off or set cruise control shaking starts. also noted but do not know if related , when you let off acceletator whether maintaining a speed or accelerating and then resume, it never is a smooth transiton, there is a thud every time you put foot back into accelerator. thanks |

Have you tried shocks ???
the stock shocks are BARELY up to the task for the stock tires and only marginally so...
they allowed my front tires to cup within 4K miles and this creaed tremendous shake !
just a thought - I swtched my fronts to the rear for now and it's k up to 100+ with them on the rear...

I'm having the same problem. My 2003 V10 Ford has been at the dealer for the fourth time in 4-months trying to fix a humming and vibration problem just like you mentioned. They at first thought it was the drive shaft and installed a new one. Then they thought it was the bearings in the rear-end so replaced those. They still can't figure out what the problem is. I'm very frustrated!
I hope it is the U-Joints, I'm going to suggest they look at those.

This sounds like what my '94 F250 did. Found pinion yoke bearing bad. Not fun to fix but did solve my problem. |
