when driving down the road, I get a popping noise under the driver's feet. Thoughts? I believe it may be suspension related.

mine also does the same, i posted a few months ago with no response, brought it to the dealer they greased between the springs, but it didn't help, brought it back they could find nothing, mine sounds as i phrase it in the body shop buisness as OIL CANNING, mine will only do it if it is above 75 degree F i sounds as if steel is actually ripping or buckling under my feet, there is no rubber mount inthat area that i can see. so i am not sure what is up with it...

Hey!!!!! I too have this problem, sounds kind of like a rattle sometimes and sometimes a knock but it seems to be right under my feet. And like he said it seems worse on a warm day. It did it while it was stock, then I put 9" worth of lift on it, new springs and everything and i hoped it would get rid of the noise but no change. It drives me FREAKIN Crazy. This truck is so nice except for that one problem. I checked body mounts, suspension, practically laid underneath it for 2 hours trying to find it..... PLEASE......Somebody come forth and reveal this disturbing rattle.

Guys, I have the SAME problem on my '00 Ex 4x4. Mine is the V10 Gas, but it doesnt matter with this problem. And, like the last post said, MY truck is PERFECT except for this one dang sound! From all I have investigated, I have narrowed the problem down to body mount bushings underneath the drivers feet. OF course, sometimes I hear the sound from farther forward. Most of the time, it sounds pretty darn close to underneath my feet. From the terrain I drive, I find that the clanking noise ONLY happens when there would typically be some "body roll". Or, whenever the frame would flex a little. So, that is all I know.... CHECK the body mount underneath the drivers seat. There have been 3 posts in the general Excursion forum about this.

If you are a Ford exec reading this... FIX THIS PROBLEM!!!! IT IS POSTED EVERYWHERE, WHICH MEANS IT IS SERIOUS ENOUGH TO ADDRESS BY THE MANUFACTURER! I hear that just tightening the bolt wont always do it. So it needs to be addressed by Ford!

hey guys i have a 2001 ex and the noise drove me crazy. checked out the body mounts and found that the top of the mount is metal to metal with the body. it might sound cheesy but the only way other than replacing the mounts on the whole rig is to loosen up the two mounts through the floor jack the body up slightly and cut a round circle the size of the mount out of a plastic five gallon bucket and install it betwen the body and mount then tighten up and go. it fixed mine so far.

when i lifted the X i found when removing the sway bar drop down arms that the inner bushing was shot...gone. Remove them one at a time as so the sway bar does not drop on you and check out the bushings in them.

This is a body mount issue. Had our Ex. in the dealer the second summer after we bought it. When pulling out of steeper driveways onto the street and when hitting bumps while turning and braking would cause a popping sound under the driver's side floorpan and you could feel it also. The dealership changed about 6 body mounts and it fixed the problem for a bit then it started again. I am currently considering replacing all the body mounts with polyurathane body mounts.
