i finally got the tires. I ended up with 285x75rx16's. i bought the nitto terra garpplers, and they ride so much better than those stock firestones! ACK!!! They fill the wheel well like no tomorow! I am super stoked, pics coming soon!
btw, lift is next week!
have fun,

That tire is part of the reason I got the X I have...
Most had the Steeltex, some had the Pirelli's, but this one had the BFG's and have had great results with them over the years...

Some Excursions come from the factory with BFG Rugged Trail tires. I was glad mine did. If I'm not mistaken, the tire pictured is the BFG All Terrain T/A AT KO. I ran through two sets of those on my '97 Expedition, and both sets lasted well over 60K miles. They are great off road tires, and not bad in snow and rain. I was told, but haven't checked myself yet, that those are not available in load range E. When I'm ready for new tires, I will explore the AT KOs. |

I was thinking of just putting some simple road tires on. I'm thinking they will ride quiet and long.
Did you say Propane... tsk.. no sense of adventure. How about Diesel - Electric Hybrid? |

All
I am debating the tire thing now... I have appt. at Firestone next week to exchage original steeltex.. After reading posts here and other forums.. I was going to pay for upgrade to Bridgestone Revo's.. at $48 extra per tire... some have paid less I know.. and I will negotiate a bit more...
I have 6 month winters so wet and snow traction is very important, as much as highway noise and mileage..
are the BFG's or Perelli's as good? Any other thoughts would help..
thanks
Bill

anything I should know about switching from 265 to 285? Impact to spedo and odometer? Any issue with steering performance?

wow, i havent checked this thread in awhile!
as far as spedo changes for 285's, not much. At 50 mph, your looking at about 5mph difference. as far as stering, if you go 295's, you cant do any sharp turns on any kind of articulation..I mean we're talking going off of a driveway. They will rub the wells, and give you trouble, on stock height anyway. (4x4)
Um, btw, i was wrong on tire size. I dont know I put 285's, they are 295's. Im such a dork sometimes...
Um yea, i am regretting buying the nittos. they suck bad. they are a road tire as far as i am concerned. They dont do well in snow, much, or sand. Oh, but they grip the pavement well! Thats ok, with the recall on the firestones, i only paid $250. so thats a plus.
i want to get that most gorgeous tire that you have so wonderfulling blessed this forum with don. I had a set of bfg at's on my expo and bronco. they were the best off road tire I ever had..i think...lol.
ok, have fun all!
