2000 x v-10 4x4 starts but dies uless you give it gas. will not idle . drove it today with one foot on brake and one on gas. not that hard to do unless you are talking on cell phone and rpms get to low and truck dies while in a turn , pretty tuff to turn an excursion one handed with no power steering. any way my first thout is IAC but wondered if it could be fuel pump as well. 64,000 miles on it. any ideas??

From what I have read, I would guess the IAC....but then again I am no mechanic.

Good luck.

First, hang up & drive! I agree that it sounds most likely to be the IAC valve, but don't rule out a fuel filter, too. (When was the last time it was changed?)

I had the same thing happen on a differnet vehicle and it was the fuel pump.

it was the iac. cost me 50 bucks with warranty at ford dealer. wasnt the first time someone brought a ford in that wouldnt idle, could be worse as the VW passat's burn up O2 sensors like candy and they are pricey.

Just for future reference, my 2000 4x4 Ltd Excursion was doing the same thing. My husband called a ford master technician friend and he told us it was the IAC sensor and it can be cleaned with brake cleaner or carb cleaner. My husband took off the IAC sensor and cleaned it well with brake cleaner, it is now working perfectly and it saved us $60.00 to $70.00 bucks!!!!
