Hey Guys,
I know this is off-topic but I saw a clip on TV the other night that Jeep will introduce a Liberty with a diesel engine either for '05 or '06...didn't hear the entire story. Anyone know what kinda engine this will be?
That would be a pretty cool combo. The guy next door at work has a Liberty and he loves the little SUV.
Is the PSD X getting a baby niece?
Ha.

They've been threatening to do this for years. In 2002 they said htey would have a Liberty diesel as a 2004 model, now they are saying 2005. They have been selling them already for awhile in Euorpe, although the ones here are supposed to be a better diesel engine. These things often don't pan out because Americans typically don't want to buy little diesels. *shrug* Maybe the tide is turning, but I won't hold my breath. Sounds like a neat rig, though.
Here is a review: http://www.freep.com/money/autoreviews/phelan8_20030508.htm
As far as a baby niece...Jeep is dodge, which is Daimler/Chrysler, which is, well, German. Not that there haven't been some awesome Mercedes diesels over the years, 'cause there have been. They both have four wheels, I suppose.

hey there everybody. By now you guys probably know that i can some smart ass remarks every once in a while. I gotta say something right now.
My family has always been a jeep family. And we hate those liberties. I guess this comment is kinda bias, but I hate the thought of the liberty's having a diesel motor. But then again, maybe it will redeem its name in my family with a diesel motor. oh well, have fun kiddos...

Hey I'm predicting that diesel power will take the mid-size SUV market sector by storm. The market is already gun shy about gas prices, and they've notice diesel fuel remaining (relatively) steady in price during this uptick...
I'm thinking a lot of these 'weekend warriors' have heard our PSDs at stoplights and are thinking they like part of the action...if only they were available in smaller SUVs...
Just my thought...
Could be wrong.

Heres my prediction. Youve got these poeple buying the "cute" liberty's, and it seemsto me that they do it for the statis of a jeep. But then at the same time, they want the "SUV" look and feel, yet a mini van ride and comfort. I think those familys are interested in the comfort and ride of the matter. The wives will most likely say "neh" to the idea because of the noisy diesel. Even though the noise, I must admit, has been cut in half in the past few years! (duramax, cummins has cut their noise a grip, and the new monster king cheese 6.0's have been a cut in noise!)
Anyways, my two cents, once again!

I look forward the the arrival of the CRD Liberty.
See Jeep's announcement... http://www.jeep.com/autoshow/news/2004_04_02_05_jeep_liberty_crd_68888.html
I off-road a lot but also commute all over the island. (The former not very well received by the company mini-van. ) The Liberty with the diesel would be an excellent choice as many of my business "visits" take me off the beaten path., I can do my light wheeling on weekends and get better than current mileage.
I imagine sales, as with most non-truck diesels in the US, will be mainly focused on folks like me who are "in the know" about diesels. Probably won't see too many 25 year old single females driving them.

Sounds good, if I were looking for something like that. I like this description:
# the fuel economy of an I-4
# the acceleration of a V6
# the torque output of a V8
Interesting that they aren't selling in California, Massachusetts, Maine, New York or Vermont. I think I know why they aren't in CA, what is the deal with the others?

I'd like to hear one running.
Damn if my wife didn't have 4 kids to lug around and I could get her to part with her 99 burb (which she totally loves) I'd like to have one of the Libertys I think.

The other states have adopted California emissions laws/requirements for thier vehicles.
