Unfortunately I live in the midwest wear they dump more salt on the roads then any where when we get a few inches of snow. I would like to protect my 02 X. I know a lot of people will say it is a waste of money, etc for undercoating... But I didn't undercoat my 01 F-150 and every time I changed my oil I was amazed at the rust on the under side of it. And I would go to the quarter place about once every two weeks and spray the under side to get rid of the rust. Also I would leave the car outside so that putting it in a warm garage didn't speed up the rusting process.
I have seen kits that you can do it yourself from Eastwood for like $130, which includes - This kit includes the Undercoating System (16003) with 3 wands and tips to apply undercoat and anti rust in difficult to access areas, the Unibit (16003B) allows access so the Undercoating Gun can treat door, and rocker panel areas where access holes don't exist, the Pack of 25 Plugs (16004) seals any drilled holes, 3 quarts of HD Anti Rust (16017ZP) coats internal surfaces while the 3 qts. of Rubberized Undercoating (16008ZP) coat wheel wells.
I don't have access to a lift so this would be hard to do at home. It could be done but probably wouldn't do as good as a job as if it was up on a lift. So does anyone have any suggestions? Do I take it to Ziebart? Any other places people can think of that will do it? What ball park figure should I look at paying for it? I live in the suburbs of Chicago.. Thanks for the advice in advance....

Poormonkey,
My X lives in the same type of conditions, I do the Ford spray under coat and Krown body spray.

The Krown spray is inside the fenders via a hole that is drilled. It's about $150cdn a year. Krown is a Canadian company so it will not help. However, talk to the Ford service and they should be able to tell you of someone in your area that can do the same with out voiding your warranty.

good luck

I live about 100 east of chicago in South Bend Indiana and I have been using a product called Rust Check. It is an oily substance that gets into every nook and cranny. It is excellent for rust proofing and lubing everything underneath the truck. I really like it for between leaf springs.
Excursion costs about $149.00 or you can buy the stuff and do it yourself.

I had my underbody coating done when I bought my X new from the dealer. I believe it was about a $200 option. This'll be my 4th winter with the X and here in Minnesota where it's common to dump more salt on the road than there is snow, I haven't had any rust problems. Then again, I have had 3 major oil leaks that have left the underbody coated entirely in engine oil. Nothing like a DIY job.
