Hi Guys. As you can see by my gallery photos, I had a 2000 X with a Fabtech 5.5". Dang, I LOVED that lift. But, it always looked as though the 37" BFG's were too small for that lift (can you believe it?). And, that's what people always said, too.
Well, I just purchased a 2004 X Eddie Bauer Powerstroke, so it's going under the knife for a lift. I would LOVE to put another Fabtech on there, but I tow a 11,000 travel trailer with sag bars. So, I probably cannot lift it beyond 4". I have access to a dang good discount on the PROCOMP lift. I am a little hesitant about ProComp.
Does anyone have the ProComp out there that has an opinion to help me out? What do you think about the lift? How does it ride? Most importantly, does the truck sit LEVEL after the lift is installed? ANY ProComp advice will HELP so much!
THANKS GUYS!
Jarrett

I think all 4 inch lifts come with front springs and rear add a leafs and or a 4 inch block. I think that would be better than a after market spring in the rear for towing. I have a extra leaf and a 4 inch block.

Jarrett have you check out Edge lifts yet? They seem to be a popular choice amongst Excursion/Superduty owners that tow

I have the ProComp 6" lift (same as their Superduty 4") on my 2004 Excursion.
The kit provides rear blocks (3" I believe) which did not provide the right amount of height in the rear, so I had to add another 1.5" block to "level it out"

Other than that, I am very happy with the kit.
Check 4wheelparts.com, as they seem to have really good pricing on these kits.

Good Luck
Joe

BIRDMAN-
You say you have a 4" kit on your X? What do you think about it? Is it the ProComp? Did it sit level when it was installed?

Good idea, Bill, but EDGE only offers a Hanger lift (no springs) on the 4.5" lift! Can you believe that? I mean, using those FLAT, dull, stock springs on 4.5" lift. I am sure it works for some, but I am looking for a little more than 2 to 3 inches of suspension travel.... which is what my stock springs seem to have.
Also, when I look at 4.5" EDGE hanger lifts, it seems like I see the hanger sticking WAY down in front and the back and those THIN THIN THIN leaf springs laying flat over the axle in between the hangers. I just don't think it looks too hot. That lift draws too much attention to those scrawny stock leafs. I find it easier and better looking to replace the front springs. That way, nothing is over conspicuous.
It's just amazing to me that a majority of the ProComp lifts I see do NOT sit level! ...even on the ProComp advertisements or product pictures! hahaha. I mean, do they not know that the truck is sagging in the rear when the company is taking the picture? I think that looks horrible.. but even WORSE for ProComp.

It's like what JOE said... he had to put in another block to level it out. With ProComp, it seems that installing another block in the rear is par for the course. I never had to do that on my Fabtech lift---in fact, I had to TAKE OUT a block from the rear (Fabtech uses the 8" Superduty rear springs to lift an Excursion 5.5").
Thanks for the pictures and the help. I am still wondering what to do.

I think I would avoid Pro Comp if possible. On other forums they are usually referred to as "Pro Crap". We have Donahoe's 4.5" hanger kit on our Excursion, but haven't towed with it yet. The stock springs do look kinda bad, but the ride is nice. Donahoe also sells a 4" kit, which replaces the front springs. Does BDS make a 4"? Maybe check them out if they do.

Thanks for the idea about Donahoe's 4" spring lift. I will check it out. AS FOR BDS lifts... avoid them at all cost. I have insider information about BDS and I would avoid them. I know too much about BDS to recommend them to anybody. This I know: AVOID BDS. I suppose what else can someone expect from a company that names their suspension line Big Dick Suspension.
Thanks for your help guys! I'm still searchin'.
