I have a 2003 Limited Black Excursion with Limo tint on all windows behind driver's and front passenger. So of course at nighttime I am having difficulty seeing out of the rear window when backing up.
I am about to spend $200-$300 on some roughly half price PIAA lights from the website litewarehouse to mount on the rear bumper for improved vision (either 2100s or 3000s).
Will this solution REALLY give me improved visibility at night with the limo tint? I know some of you have used this option.
Thanks.

Hey CoolStr - I've tried the same thing...
bumped up the stock backup lamps to 55W (marginal improvement...
then added fog lights to the bottom of my bumper angled out a bit...
that helped some, but I have to say I still don't have full voltage to them yet......
haven't found the right wire to splice into...

You installed Limo tint over the Dark Factory Privacy Glass?

I had a professional installer use the appropriate additional tinting (taking into account what Ford already had in place) to net me the "limo" tint light pass through. He did not overlay limo tint over what Ford already has. The net effect of what was installed has technically given me limo tint.
From the light I have seen the PIAA put out I think they may be my solution for nighttime backup but would like to hear opinions/experiences.

Ahh now I gotchya, the Privacy glass that came from the factory ipermits about 18% to 20% total light thru to the interior, the tint installer probably put on lighter shade 70% TLT film to drop it to around 5% TLT.
Talk about a dark back window I installed 5% Limo Film over the factory privacy glass,we don't look out the back window as we have the side TT mirrors we back up with.
The Hella 50 watt twins installed in the bumper will look like this at night or generally get the attention of many behind you.

CHPmustang,
Great picture. That gives me an idea of what potentially I may do on mine. I will also be adding the TT mirrors later.
But it is clear from your picture that at least with the TT mirrors you have very good illumination for backing up.
By the way...where can I get the Ford OEM telescopic, two way swing/heated/turn signal/running light/power tow mirror?? That is the one I want and it may negate my need to totally light up the back. Although I will add some light.

I know a guy that sells the Ford OEM lighted mirror set for around $300 shipped,I can drop him a line to be sure he has them and contact you be email if you want me to follow up.
My wife made one point very clear when we bought our Excursion a few years back is that it has to have the TT mirrors for we'll be towing with it and they're much easier to backup and change lanes with.

Absolutely! Please contact your guy and have him email me. I will buy them if he has what I need (telescopic, two way swing/heated/turn signal/running light). The most recent tow mirrors are hard to find.
Let me know. Thanks much!
