Hi to all Ex owners. I,m new to the forum. I just purchased 4x4 2005 Limited PSD. I traded in my 2000 with V-10 XLT 4x4. I love the truck. I have alot of questions though. This is my first diesel truck. My Dad has a 550 series PSD. He kind of pushed me toward a diesel. Does Can anyone recomend some things I need or should put on the truck as far as gauges, remote start and things of that nature? Any info would be gratfully appreciated.
Thanks.

Welcome as well from nuther Texican in greater downtown Texus

CHP's top 5 is definetly a good list...

If you're after a Wee bit more mpg and a WEEEEEE bit more power....
consider a programmer to wake up that big sleeper in your engine compartment...

Only problem with it, if you get one, you'll hate to drive it stock

Bill,
Thanks for the info. Was wondering if it would be worth wild to install EGT gauge. I talked to my Dad and he said that he doesn't have one. I also asked him if he ever lets the rig run for a bit after stopping. Should I be doing this? Was wondering about remote starters also. Any insight on those? The dealer told me they would install one for 499. That seems a little pricey. I love the new Ex it rides so much better than the 2000. I realize that it should it is a new vehichle. I am talking about the steering and suspension. This one has the rear sway bar, what a difference. The brakes are much stronger also. My 2000 had 60000 miles on it and I never had any serious problems with it. Thanks again for the info.

David for the EGT gauge I'd say purchase one if you're going to be towing and/or adding performance tuner programming.
For the turbo to cool down at shutdown we usually let er idle for 15-30 seconds but there's remote starters that have that "turbo saver" feature but unfortunately I don't own a remote starter as several members here do and they may chime in with their recommendations
Here's a past remote starter THREAD.
Also check out Crimestopper which the shutoff timer can be set for up to like 5 minutes.

With older turbo technology, it was not only wise but in some cases mandatory to allow a turbo cool down time...

This was due to inferior turbo design, inferior cooling design, and mostly inferior oils that "could " "cook" inside a turbo if you shut it down extremely hot...

I had a QUICK Probe GT with the 4 cyl turbo that automatically would run an auxillary oil pump thru the turbo when shut down if the temps were at a certain level....

My opinion (and a lot others (like Chevron, etc)) is that that's not necessarily mandatory any more...

YES, if you are towing HEAVY and FAST and your turbo and engine are working VERY hard you may want to let it have an easy time for a minute or two....

But how many times are you running at full bore for hours and turn the key off ?

I would say never...
even after HOURS at speed on the interstate I typically have to slow down and make some stops and turns to jump off the interstate if just to get fuel....
and if that lower speed running is for more than a minute, I would venture to say your turbo temps have dropped to safe levels before you stop...

Certainly, to each his own, but I've never had a turbo problem on any of the turbochared vehicles I've driven... and I never think about a cool down period....

OBTW,
I do have a remote start that has it and COULD be used as a cool down tool, but I never do....

I had the Ford remote starter put in when I bought mine. I has been a well used option on my part. Nice to have it start up and warm up / cool down before you get in it. You just have to remember to set the controls to where you need them.

Welcome to the site. You can learn alot from the guys, always some good info floating around!
