I will be leaving April 20th from Annapolis, Maryland for ten days in Palm Beach, Florida (In laws own a house there, doesn't that suck?) I will post a report on my mileage as well. BTW, 3.73 gears, 5.4 V8, and some minor engine mods. No trailer. I will transport a few pieces of luggage, my wife, baby girl, assorted baby equipment (stroller, etc) and the usual lot of odds and ends. I'll report back to you guys with the results.

Flyfish just keep her under 70 and set the cruise control to get the best numbers

We seem to all be taking these big trips lately including our Dallas to Phoenix to Sacramento next month,we'll be in Norcal for about two weeks and we'll document our MPGs for that Excursion too

Got back from Florida and posted some good numbers mileage wise. (Fish wise too, including one 350lb, 10 foot Bull Shark, Amberjack, and tons of Spanish mackeralI (Mackeral on a flyrod is a ball) I calculated my average to be 14.66 miles per gallon! Ran from Annapolis Md to Palm Beach. Stopped for gas once on the way down, same deal on the way home. Never let it get much below 1/4 tank before refueling. Now, granted, I have an air intake and Gibson cat back exhaust but I must take issue with the info portion of the site that states that the 5.4L get the worst mileage out of all available gas Excursion engines. From what everyone is posting about their V10 engines, I got them beat mileage wise by quite a bit. I even have a six inch lift and 305 tires! So lets see- a 44 gallon tank at 14.66 miles per gallon equals a 645 mile crusing range- now if only gas wasn't $2.25 a gallon!

I'll post my numbers when I return from Walleye fishing up in Canada. We leave 5/22 and will return after a week or so. 840 miles each way with V-10 3.73 gears 6 in. lift 35 inch tires, pulling a buddies fishing boat.. $2.25 would be welcome compared to what I hear about gas prices up there.

Scott,

Based on a consensus of opinions, the 5.4L seemed like it did get the worst mileage compared to the V10 and PSD. How fast do you drive on the highway to achieve 14.66 MPG? Those are remarkable numbers considering you're lifted and running 33" tires.

Eric-

I absolutely babied the truck in regards to the gas pedal and set the cruise control on the first "hash" mark passed 70. My GPS (Streetpilot3) calculated my speed any where between about 71.5 and 72.9 mph. I was very suprised to get the numbers that I did and I suppose on second thought that air intake and exhaust mods must have made for a bigger difference than I originally anticipated. Generally, I get between 11 and 13 in normal daily driving (Some city and a good bit highway) so this totally came out of left field. I usually log about 40,000 miles per year.

On I-95 heading south, once you get passed Richmond, Virginia, there is basically nothing and very little traffic (Compared to I-95 in the Mid Atlantic and Northeast) From southern VA to darn near the Georgia state line, I did not touch the gas pedal or brakes once. The terrain is also flat. I did not tow anything and had myself , wife, and baby girl along with the usual lot of suitcases and baby strollers, etc. so we were not loaded down at all. I also inflated my tires to max (50lb on Goodyear ATS tires) I removed my Thule crossbars from the roof as I figured that could make for quite a bit of drag.

My next big road trip will be to the Twin Cities( I work for Andersen Windows, is this in your neck of the woods?) this summer for a big corporate meeting and may drive so I will furnish another report on fuel consumption when thats completed.

Anybody else that has a 5.4L please respond with your numbers, I would be interested in comparing.

PS The truck is a 2WD

Nice. Now that I think of it, I think there's something in the air on the east coast. When the wife and I drove out to PA/NJ for our honeymoon a few years back, thats when I recorded my record MPG of 19.4. A/C was on, cruise was set to 70. We weren't loaded down at all, either. I logged over 800 miles on one tank. Haven't seen those kinds of numbers since!

Ahhh...that has some to do with it. You're considerably lighter with the 5.4L and 2WD. But still, you're lifted and riding on 33's. Either way, good to hear you're having succesful mileage with the 5.4L. If we get more reports, we can certainly update the article on the site with a link to this thread/discussion.

The Twin Cities is definitely my neck of the woods! Let me know when you're coming into town. I would imagine you'll be in downtown Minneapolis for the corporate meeting? It's definitely a hike from the east coast. I never get over all of the tollroads starting at Chicago! West of Chicago it's free!

I leave for Michigan from Florida in late June, I'm anxious to see the numbers I get. 2002 2WD X, 5.4L. I however have a 3" lift with 295 Nitto Terra Grapplers and a huge yakima basket on top. No exhaust or intake mods plus I'll be carrying 4 adults and 1 large alaskan malamute with all our gear. Should be an interesting trip. Any tips on how I can get a few extra mpg before I leave in June?
