I'm a proud new FordExcursions.com member. Greetings all!

A SSV Excursion is the only vehicle that will replace my '98 Interceptor. The problem is finding one... used. I'm watching the TMAuction.com site which sells all Florida surplus vehicles. Hopefully I'll find a 100K mile x-FDLE or Fire Dept. truck.

If anyone knows good sources for used/auctioned SSVs, I'd be most grateful. I'm in Cape Coral, Fl., it's about 2 hrs. south of Tampa.

Special Serivce Vehicle. Here's a link to Ford's fleet website page for the SSV Excursion...

I love the vinyl seats, w/ front bench (means 9 passenger!), and vinyl floors (easy clean-up!).

John Welcome to the Excursion forums

What advantages besides more room you looking for in the Excursion as they are civilian X's before they roll into Emergency Vehicle Shops to be equipped with upgraded wire harnesses, high output alt, etc.

Most if not all SSV Excursions I've seen have been gasoline powered.

Best bet is to keep your eyes peeled on various state DGS auctions along with county and city levels.

I know the US Border Patrol has several Excursions in the fleet being replaced by Tahoes as the miles get put on so they may be an additional avenue to check out.

Thanks for the welcome Bill. I'm looking for a SSV because I enjoy the no frills interior and exterior. Usually police vehicles can be purchased cheaper than their civilian counterparts. Then if an engine or tranny goes I have excellent resources to replace/rebuild them, and the trucks still end up cheaper than the civilians... even with new parts.

I'd be happy with a gas truck, it's just the power available from turbo diesels can be obscene!

What do you mean by DGS auctions?

I'm going to start another thread for links to state / agency auctions.

John DGS would stand for Department of General Services many states have this department for the sale of state property like cars, trucks, desks, chairs, printers, etc. I was in the business till an auto/truck accident sorta put it on the backburner till I return this year.

I'm watching out for a late 90's to current natural white crown vic to use for family trips and also to pack alot of my Commercial/Amateur Radio gear into

Nothing like the black rubber floor covering versus the carpeted

I just used Google for "Excursion SSV" and found a lot of links including some dealers apparently with new stock. A DGS auction makes sense. MSRP on a 6.0 diesel is $44K -- about $10K less than the loaded Limited.

In Australia, vinyl seats and floor is a special order, very common and called a "hose out."

Of course, this is already a loud truck, so keep in mind the absence of floor padding, carpets and cloth trim can create a headaches in terms of noise. At least in Australia, the hose-outs were usually also not fitted with insulation and you even buy them without a/c or frills like electric door locks, windows etc. It's been a long time since they even made a manual window regulator, so it's not an option now. Pity.

Personally, I'd like to fit the 6spd manual and the coil front end out of an F250 in the Excursion -- that would be a fun truck.
