Wish I could get a European tail-light wire harness, I want to swap for those tail-lights. I know there was a thread on this before a while back, but has anyone tried to swap in the Econoline tail-lights. I know I could run wires back from the front to run amber turn signals, but there has to be an easier way. Anyone have any other ideas. I think I might try it this summer.

Another fellow asked about the 3-color rear lights a while back because they're mandatory in his country (had his X shipped in from the USA). This is another mod I wish to do, but can't find the time. I told him to use the turn-signal leads that feed the mirrors for the orange signals, and to use the 3rd brakelight feed for the red signals. That way, the turn signals will not illuminate when you activate the brakes, and the brake lights will no longer blink with the turn signals. You may also be able to get the brake light feed from the trailer electrical connection.
My apologies to CHPMustang if I answered differently than the proposed article. Which, by the way, I look forward to reading. |

Looking forward to this. I've always been a fan of the european tail lights after owning volvos and vws. I saw an econoline parked next to my X and saw the tail lights but thought I would only need to replace the lens/housing.
So mods to the wiring are required?

I was inspired by seeing all the GM's around with three color tails so I had to do it
There's is some wiring/modifications that has to be done along with parts that have to be purchased but I'll be detailing the process in the how to I'm putting together and should be up in this weekend
Stay tuned

You can buy aftermarket 3-color light assemblies, but they won't come with the extra sockets needed for the orange turn signals. I believe fordpartsonline.com will sell the sockets alone, plus you can get original Ford tail light lenses there. You'll want the tail lights made for the '93-'94 Econoline.
Again, this is a mod I want to do, but need time to get a "round-tuit" ... still have the Ford Lightning 3rd brakelight sitting on the shelf to install (has LED red lights & 2 white cargo lights), and it's been sitting on the shelf for several months. |

Hello Gentlemen
I had to do this modification due to our regulations. The wiring for turning lights you have to get from the front - either from the fuse box or from the front turning lights.
The brake light you can take from the top brake light wire.
Just take enough of cable before you start the work - its a long wehicle.
