Thamks for letting me join. Just bought a used 2002 limited v-10 low miles. Dard green/tan interior. So far luv it. Have not had the chance to take it on a road trip, but will next weekend. Quick question. Can you put 17" tires or is it geared for 16's. I have an expedition - 98 bought and paid for wifes car, and my explorer. I asked the dealership about moving up to 17's on my explorer and they no way diferent gears. Anyone do it??? I'll try and search old posts. Haven't figuerd that out yet. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks - Kevin

Kevin,

Welcome aboard! Glad to see another new person around here.

Regarding your question...I believe you're asking about 17" wheels, not tires. Wheel/rim height doesn't really matter, it's more about the tire width/size (for the most part). If you get into an outrageous wheel offset, then the wheel/rim size does matter.

Regardless, a stock height Excursion will fit 32" no problem. What tire size would you run on the 17" wheels?

I was thinking of using 17" stock rims and tires that are on the expeditions. Maybe alittle wider. Can it be done? Thanks for the response. Kevin

Kevin,

No, it cannot be done. Expeditions have different axles than the Excursion, thus a different bolt pattern. Excursions are 3/4-ton axles, Expeditions are only 1/2-ton. Our axles have 8 lugs on them, Expeditions only have 6.

2000-2004 will fit, but they are the same size, just a different style (i.e. not 17"). 2005+ I believe are different and don't fit the pre-05 bolt pattern? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
