I have an 01 4wd Excursion, and Bought the Bilstein shocks for the crappy ride, and I was at 86k miles. After 20k miles of tank like ride, I was ready. Unfortunately, I got up under the rear end, took off the top two bolts, and found the stock shocks had a mounting bracket / bushing running through the upper ring on the shock. The new shocks didn't have that bracket, and gettting it off the old one seemed impossible. Did the vendor send me the F250 shocks or the 2WD shocks on accident? Or... do I need to try and get the bushing somewhere?
PLease help. The front shocks make a world of difference, but I want those rear ones on ASAP.
Thanks!!! |

Kidhauler Welcome to the Excursion Forums
The top shock mounts for the new shocks should look like the below photo of the stocker,my Ranchos came identical mount wise,I don't know if the Bilsteins differ. If you can snap a couple photos and post em with the dilema you have that would help alot
Have a Safe and fun 4th of July with the Fam!

Yeah, that's exactly what my old ones look like. But the new ones are missing the mounting piece, and just have a whole in the center.?????????? |

From the sounds of it Bilstein may have sent you an incomplete set of shocks perhaps

Actually, Kid, what you need to do is put the stockers into a vice and press the old bar pin and bushing out, then press them into the Bilstien loops. Typically Bilstein is really good at getting the right hardware, so you might want to check the part number...the vendor may have swapped them on you. Use a little WD40 and they should slide in nicely using a couple of sockets...one to push it in and another to go over the Bar pin and allow you to press the bar pin out.
It's not that hard...only a small pain in the butt. I purchased adjustable MX6 shocks and had to do the same thing because they were manufactured for the front of an F250 with 4" of lift. Works really well, though!

Well, they're SUPPOSED to be complete with the bar pin already installed if they are a BE5-6209. I suspect that the vendor went with a different shock for some reason...maybe stock levels...maybe experience? I dunno. My BE5-6208s came with them when I did the fronts, and Bilstein prides themselves on shocks specifially manufactured for specific vehicles, including valving and hardware.
