For the cleanest, best filtering/flowing filter I'll have to put one in for AFE Stage 1 or Stage 2 setups, for the dustier environments the Ford AIS setup is the one to go for.

K&N's have been suspected (and warranty denied by Ford) for "dusting" turbos....
that is,
allowing dust particles to get thru and destroy the HIGH SPEED spinning turbos wheels as if they were sand blasted....

With Ford looking to get out of ANY warranty claim, I'm sticking with Ford approved stuff... IMHO

Hey bada$$xcursion,
The Ford AIS (air induction system) is avaiable through www.powerstrokeshop.comfor around $180-190. For less than half the cost of an AFE stage 2, you can get an enclosed intake setup that provides excellent filtration and gives the airflow comparable to some of the high $$ kits (AFE, MAC,etc). There is also a fender sleeve you can purchase to allow more cold air to enter the intake. I don't think the elements are cleanable/reuseable; you have to buy a new element whenever it needs changing (not quite sure of the price, i think it's around $70 give or take a few $). But it is approved and designed by Ford for their diesel engines . I am leaning towards this for my X as well, since it is kinda hard to justify roughly $500 for an AFE stage 2. Hope this helps. Sorry for the long post.

Amsoil is selling the Ford air filter kit with a Donaldson filter for $225. Here's a little info: https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/pcis.aspx

I've also been looking at the AFE Stage II but am a big fan of the enclosed air filter box. I'm still not sure which way I'll go.
