The right side rear door and cargo area speakers have stopped working on my 2000 Ex. The speakers made crackling noises when I would hit a bump and would work correctly again if I hit another bump. When the right front door speaker did this, I took it off and cleaned the contacts and it has worked since. I took the rear door and cargo speaker out and cleaned the contacts and now they don't work at all, they don't even crackle. I took the front speaker out that works and put it in the door and it doesn't work while in the rear door. Does anyone know why these speakers would crackle and then totally stop working after I took them out to clean the contacts. I guess I fixed the crackle issue but would like to get them working again. There are no problems with the left (driver) side speakers. The truck has never been wrecked.

Try the Stereo unit self test for the speakers;
The stereo must be turned on and in tuner mode(AM/FM)
Simultaneously press the audio unit preset buttons 3 and 6
Each speaker is tested and displayed on the audio unit in the following sequence: RF, LF, LR, RR
The speaker walk-around test automatically continues and tests for a speaker short and CD/DJ. If a speaker short exists, SPKR SHORT will be displayed.

I tried the test and the display showed "No DJ". Do you have any idea what the code means?

If the No DJ comes up on the display that means that you don't have an external CD changer hooked up. If you didn't get the speaker short on the display maybe the speaker/s are bad??
If you have the speakers out already might as well upgrade to a nice set of Pioneers,they'll set ya back about $60 a pair but you'll enjoy the sound quality with them over the stockers.

Thanks Bill. I'll keep trying. The working front door speaker didn't work in the 2 locations when I took it off and tried it to test if the 2 dead speakers are working or not. The 2 dead speakers work in the front door, where there is no problem. It seems to be a wiring item going to the 2 rearmost positions.

Have you already pulled the stereo unit out to make sure nothing has become disconnected or loose?

I haven't done that yet, I need to find the tool that allows the stereo to be pulled.

Should be available at most Wallyworld,Autozone,Napa auto parts stores they only run a few bucks.

Larry--when you use the double din tools--insert them until they click and then torque them to the outside--away from your display then gently pull. Sometimes you really have to torque em to get them to move. If you insert the tool beyond the "click" it will go through the latches and you cannot open the latches.
Also, I replaced all my speakers which I highly reccomend. The "Made in Mexico" crap really sucks! 
I imagine they are cutting in and out--trying to croak.
