hello all. i just bought a pair of toyo open country mt tires about 10000 kms ago and i am not impressed with the wear at all!!! half gone. anyway i like them for the fact that they are a ten ply tire and they were available in a 285. im on the lookout now for new tires soon again and am wondering what others out there have had good luck with. by the way i drive on about 225 miles of gravel to get out of town then the rest highway. what is a good tire on this 8000 lbs beast??
thanks

Clarence,

I have the perfect tire in mind for you. It's called the Super Swamper Bogger made by Interco Tire:

Seriously though, I am a big fan of my BFG Rugged Trail T/A tires. The wear is superb! 33,000 miles on mine and still plenty to go (rotating them every 5K is key!).

I also have the BF's... Every oil change they get rotated and the wear and ride quality is great.

I took the advice of a number of folks on this and another forum and bought a set of Bridgstone Dueler A/T Revo's.
They arrived today!!!
I bought the 285's and they will definitely fill the wheel wells much better than the 265 Dunlop Rover AT's that are on there now. I can't wait to get them on. And not bad at $715 delivered for four.

How are the Rugged Trails in the snow?

I like the BF's but Im runnin Michelin LTX M/S and they are ok on dry pavement and some damp roads but they suck on "wet" roads. They are ok in snow, I think the next ones are going to be the BFG's or the LTX AT's.

They are very nice in the snow. I originally had Firestone Steeltex's and those were not good at all in the snow...I slid everywhere. The BFG Rugged Trails provide much better traction. It's a good balance between on and offroad performance without going to the full All Terrains which are a bit softer and wear out quicker than the Rugged Trails.

Thanks. Looks like I will be getting a set of them.

I'm on my second set of the Nitto Terra grapplers AT's I got 65K out of the first set. They were great freeway, snow, and mud tire. Very quiet too.
