After driving about 200 miles on Interstate 5 most at the speed of traffic about 80 mph I pulled into a gas station. I let it idle at the pump while I went in to pay for gas. I went to the bathroom for a couple of minutes then returned to the pump. I turned off the engine and filled up the tank. I started the engine and let it run while I wrote down my mileage and computed my mpg. Then the gas gauge went to zero as if I turned off the engine, but it was still running. I turned off the engine, waited a minute then started it again. The gas gauge rose to full. I monitored the gauge on the way back home and it was ok. Does anyone have an explanation why the gauge went to zero when the tank was full?
Thanks.

Jerry

Ps. How can I describe my 6.0 Excursion at the bottom of my post without typing it in after every post?

None of Ford's latest and greatest lke being filled up while running....
it typically creates a problem with the fuel gauge that will reset after 4 or 5 starts...

If I turn the key back to listen to the music while filling up the guage will not go to full until after about 5-6 minutes of driving... I took it in to have it checked and it passed the sweep test (or whatever you call it) at the dealer... Have your dealer check it out in case down the road there is a problem with the guage you have it documented that you took it in for this problem and you can get it fixed for free (if you are out of your factory and or extended warranty)

Jerry,

This does not sound normal if you had your X turned off while filling. I would document when it happens and what pattern you had to go through to get it working again (like you did above). Unfortunately with things like this, the dealership typically likes to see it happening so they can diagnose it. If it happens repeatedly, I'm sure it'll be covered by warranty. Hopefully it was just a fluke.
