Has anyone seen or heard about a Variable Displacement Technique for a V-10? Honda and Dodge have a system to cutout one bank of cylinders when there is low power demand. This is different than the GM scheme several years ago to cut out individual cylinders.

Reference web site: www.allpar.com/mopar/new-mopar-hemi.html

I have an idea to cut out the 5 injectors on one bank with a relay and a vacuum switch. Accelerate (low vacuum) 10 cylinders - coast/cruise (high vacuum) 5 cylinders. Maybe try to hook it up to work just when OD is "ON"???

So far I have unplugged the right bank of injectors and the engine starts and idles fine. Moved in and out of the garage (small incline) OK so far.

Any hazards with this theory? Air flow measurement to the CPU?

So "service engine soon" light? Drive her down the block and see what happens! I have no idea what the implications would be.

Continuing the experiment carefully. Drove around the neighborhood about 15 minutes - it gets along fairly good on 5 cylinders. No knocks or "Check lights". Engine temp did not spike up - just normal warm up. Looking at the V-10 firing order (1-6-5-10-2-7-3-8-4-9) 6-7-8-9-10 are on the drivers side with the injectors hooked up.

I had a 6 cyl Jaguar XJ-6 that had a problem one time where I lost the connection to the front 3 Injectors. It was a definite "limp" home ride. It would move along on level ground fine up to 50 -55 MPH. Not enough power to go up grades of more than 2-3 % very well. Drove it home about 45 miles with no adverse occurances.

I have had this thought for awhile now. It's cool that you actually acted on it.

I would encourage you to post this on the V10 forum over at Ford-trucks.com.

I do not want to take awayfrom posts here bu tthere are some real V10 gurus over there. VERY technical dudes! that could add some real insight to this.

My thought was to make it a V6 in some cases rather than a straight 5. Not sure how though. If the straight 5 works though...heck...I'll try it!
