I just bought my X, 2002 Limited. So far I love it, I have always driven Vans in the past, but I wanted Something Nicer with alot of room inside. I was just wandering about the brakes on this monster. how many mile is everbody getting out of a set of brakes? It seems to take alot of pressure on the brake pedal to stop. Is this beacause of the weight?

It's a big rig, that's for sure. If you've got the diesel and a full tank with one or two people in the vehicle you're pushing 8,000 pounds. It doesn't take more effort on the brake pedal but it will stop on a dime if you really need it too.

Many X owners have brake warping problems. Seems to be a pretty common issue with these things...the rotors are too "soft". Talking with a friend the other day, apparently Rangers have this same problem. Seems to me that Ford needs to go with a different supplier of rotors as these are the worst I've ever had on any of my Fords.

A lot of "us" have gone with ART (Applied Rotor Technology) cryogenically treated rotors (they are also slotted). Get a hold of Dean at http://www.appliedrotortechnology.com and tell him you are from FordExcursions.com and he'll give you a discount on the front and rear rotors package for the Excursion. With my factory rotors, I would have to get them machined every 10K miles or so because they would constantly warp. I've had these ART rotors on for 26K and still no problems!

Welcome aboard Greg. Mine is too new to have warping problems yet, but this is sure the place to learn about these things.
