Well, it's time to wake another thread from the dead, like this one ...
http://www.supermotors.org/clubs/fordexcursions/forums/posts.php?threadid=4365&highlight=3rd%20brake

I finally got around to installing an F150 Lightning 3rd brake light with cargo-bed lights on my X. You can see photos in my album at the following link ...
http://www.supermotors.org/vehicles/registry/detail.php?id=5607&s=28033#content

Installation was much easier than I had anticipated. Hooking up the 3rd brake light was plug-n-play. The same electrical plugs are used on the X & the Lightning, except the X uses only 2 of the 3 connectors in the plugs. The only wire I had to run was from the extra wire of the light fixture to the rear-most dome light inside the X. I originally wanted to select when they come on, but wound up with them lighting up with all the other "door ajar" lights.

Now what I need are the european style brake lights like CHPMustang has.

Hey Ken,

That looks awesome. How much did it cost for the lights. Is there a way to hook it up so that the bed lights come on with the other back-up lights? How bright are they. In other words, do they help when backing up in the dark?

The light was about $90 on eBay many months ago. Last night was the first time I had them on, and I was surprised with how much light those two little bulbs put out. One could easily wire them into the reverse light circuit, and I'll be giving that option some thought myself. Would they help when backing up? Probably, but because of the way I wired mine, it's difficult to see just the light cast to the rear from that fixture when all of the interior lights are on at the same time.

I bought the light also, and attempted to install it this weekend on my 05 Excursion and it would not fit at all. Even after trimming and modifying the lamp housing it "fit" but there was a 1/4" gap along the bottom and sides. The top eventually lined up pretty well. Did you have to modify your lamp? Also, where did you buy an additional connector contact to add to the truck side of the plug to get power to the white lights? (part number maybe) Sorry for all the questions, just got really frustrated this weekend, when I thought it was going to be a drop in modification.

Thanks,

Chris

Chris - I do not recall having to trim anything for the light to fit. Wait a sec! I think there was a plastic pin or two on the backside that I simply snipped off ... other than that, easy fit-up. Electrical connections for the white cargo lights? No part numbers ... just plain primary wire, solder, and heat-shrink tubing ... spliced it together myself.
