Yep, filled the Beast today when it was just about bone dry. A whopping $128.00! Looks like I will drive the wife's 03 4Runner every chance I get! From what I hear, it will get worse (Maybe up to $4.00 a gallon by Thanksgiving) before it starts coming down again.
To all our brothers and sisters in the Gulf States- our hearts are with you. You can count me in for a donation once the relief fund is started. If any of you down there happen to somehow be reading this and have a little one, my 7month old daughter has out grown her infant clothes and I would be honored to send it to anyone in need!

Mrs. Landyot donated $100 via the Red Cross yesterday. Today, my employer (Northrop Grumman) announced their donation of $2M for relief efforts, plus they'll match all donations from employees. We have a couple shipyards down that way. I'll send a check next week. |

The news coverage has been unreal -- I can't believe the devastation.
87 octane is at $3.00/gal here. Premium is ridiculous. Diesel is at $2.80. Glad I filled up earlier this week when it was still at $2.60!
My father's company has a plant in New Orleans which is completely underwater. Fortunately, their corporation is still going to pay the employees their wages during this downtime, but the several contracts they had for production in that area are in jeapordy. Not to mention all the smaller business they farm work out to in the local economy down there, too. They would easily move to another location they've got in Texas, but the problem is that you can't get any trucks into the area to haul away parts and equipment. I can't imagine how completely screwed up the economy is going to be down there for months and years to come.

I'm at the point where I'm driving my supercharged Saleen Mustang most of the time.
While I have to put 93 in it, it gets around 18 mpg if I keep my foot out of the blower.
At least it goes almost twice as far as the Excursion does for about .20/gallon more |

My company also has stepped up to the plate...
They will match 2 to 1 our donation and have pledged up to $2500 per YEAR per employee (and with 140,000 employees that adds up...)
The first day they offered this, more than $1.2 million was raised for the Red Cross....
Which is great...
but having family in Baton Rouge and getting "in the vicinity" reports that you don't hear on the news....
THAT amount will be like me giving you 50 cents to pay your yearly bills...
This is one time it is WORSE than the news reports...
