I have a 2000 Limited V8 w/76K. The truck idles roughly and the SES light came on. Took it to Auto Zone and they read 3 codes. He didn't give me numbers, but he told me bank 1 lean, bank 2 lean, bank 2 rich. I'll disregard the last one. I assume it threw that code as I goosed it out of its desire to die on me. When the engine is above idle, it seems to run fine. I've recently installed a new fuel filter and air filter and aside from regular maintenance, haven't done anything to the engine (will do plugs and pcv this weekend). What do ya think? Thanks in advance. Steve.

Well, a rough idle COULD be a sign that the Idle Air Control vavle needs to be replaced.

New fuel filter wouldn't hurt, either.

FTE (wheere I host that picture from is currently down at the time of posting. Hopefully the pic will show up soon. It is a picture of the IAC's location on the intake.

If its the 5.4, which I know it is, it might be the line that runs from the top of the PCV valve all the way to the IAC, its not too expensive, but they are famous for cracking, the best way to find out, spray some carb cleaner or ether back on the back of the line, If I remember correctly its the one that runs right against the firewall to the IAC. Do this when its idling, the idle should smooth out, if it does, its a vacum leak on the back side at the 90* bend in the line. I went through the same thing wiht the same codes on my 98 F-150 with the 5.4, dunno if this will help, but its worth a shot.

Good luck,

Scott
