Folks,

The cold weather did a number on one of my rear Rancho RS9000 shocks this weekend. I came out in the garage today to find the rear passenger side shock leaking. The shock seems to be seized up now and the ride is very rough (no movement in the shock).

Anyone have a good lead on a site/retailer who's got good pricing on Rancho's? Or someone who'd be interested in providing shocks for an install article?

I would not be worried. This is the first time this has happened to any shock for me. A piece of road debris very likely could have been the cause for the puncture in the shock.

Anything internal would be covered by the warranty, that's what my guy at Plano 4WP advised me of a few weeks back.

Possible exchange for a new one Eric?

I have a lot of miles on these shocks. At least 80K. Prolly time for new ones anyway, but will probably just replace the rears for now. I need to address the leaf springs (front & rear) next spring when it's warmer out. I have about 3/8" clearance between the front leafs and bump-stops now. New shocks up front ain't gonna help that!

Ordered 2 new rears from Sam's Offroad. $80.88/ea. Best price I found. Thanks HBJJAM.

At least you have a new pair coming to replace the high mileage units

We'll be replacing our front V codes with a new set of W's when spring comes around these parts

I appreciate the advice on WHERE to buy (Sam's), but how about WHAT to buy? Just got my wife's 2000 4WD Limited aligned and the guy told her that the shocks were shot. So what is the best brand/model to get?
There are many opinions, I know. But let me state the criteria important to me:
1.) 85-90% of the miles will be around town, unloaded, with w\the wife wanting comfort (to th degree that's possibly from a Super Duty chassis).
2.) The remaining 10-15% will be towing the 8,500lb trailer. And I want control/safety first, comfort second.
3.) Maybe 1% of the above will actually end up being off-road, so off-road performance is NOT terribly important compared to the other criteria.

Keeping my needs in mind, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
