Is it just me, or is anyone else bothered by the lack of headrests on the rear bench seat?
The only solution I've found so far is an aftermarket bench seat for an Expedition that a local customizing company says can be adapted to the Excursion for about $800 installed. Unfortunately, it won't work with the Excursion mounting system, so a new set of rails will have to be installed.
If anyone has any other ideas, I'd like to hear them. |

Howdy, Jeff. Welcome to the site.
Monsta (Ken) was looking into this very subject not too long ago. I don't remember what he did though. I'm sure he or another member will chime in soon. This is an interesting subject.

Typhoid, it's not just you. Bothers me too. They don't put them on because they don't have to. When the Feds make them they will and not until. Might cost an extra $10 to make the truck!
(This from the company that voluntarily introduced seat belts in the '50s)

When I priced them, they were over 200 bucks EACH!!
I have decided that instead of getting some from a junk-yard and have an upholstery shop mount them, that I am going to get a Little Seat (www.littleseats.com) (A 4th seat) with head rests. Then the headrests will have double duty.
I need a 4th seat anyway...

I think you need a yellow bus!!!There might be enough room for you the wife and the kids, maybe for a freind or two and the dog.
All you need is the Short bus

Monsta, it would cost you and I $200 for sure, but what would it cost Ford when they bought 50000 of them at a shot? Headrests can't cost that much!

I had the same greivance about the third row seat when I found out that the headrests were $265 cdn . I am going to go to a pic n pull and get some headrests and the plastic thinginys and mod the seat my self .The seat is a cheap POS in my opinion in a $60k plus vehicle . The upolsterer will chg me $25 per headrest . Or I have thought about making the back of the seat taller and adding upolstry to the bottom where you can't see the mod , when you fold it it has about 8-9" to be flush with the bottom .

True. True.
I think some of the lack of adding them stemmed from the fact that the Expy and the Excursion share the same 3rd row seat. Since the Expy was probably being being redesigned as the Excursion was launched, the decision to upgrade the seat back at that point was a non-issue. Silly as it was...
