hello all once again. i have a problem and was wondering if anyone else has had the same. ever since i bought my x in the spring, when i started it cold, it would tick like a lifter tick. maybe for a couple seconds till the lifter pumped up or something. the other day i got the oil changed to esso xd3 0-30 synthetic oil and now it seems like it lasts longer. plus to it comes and goes as it is warming up. once warm i don't think it is there but i haven't really listened. i kinda think its a lifter collapesing unless someone can point me in a different direction.
thanks

Use a Motorcraft FL-820S filter. It has a silicone anti-drainback valve. That will prevent the start-up tick.
Also...now do what you want; this is only advice...get rid of your 0 weight oil. Fine for race cars, sucky for trucks. Get the real stuff if you want to take the guess work out of oil choices. Motorcraft 5W-20 semi-synth.
It has been proven time and time again to be a superior oil for the V10 and ALL the Modular family.

Do a search on piston slap... sounds exactly like the 99 F250 V-10 I had. |

Mine made a similar noise this was shortly before she spit out the #3 plug! |

I agree. Mine made the same noise before it blew plug 9 at 95,000 miles. I had a helio-coil put in at a Ford dealer for $515.00 out of town (my local mechanic would have been about 1/2). Now have 149,000 and no noise. Check your plugs but do not overtighten. Do not change out the other plugs. They last and last. |
