2 questions:
1. Reasonable to increase interval between changes with synthetics? to how much?
2. Amsoil or Mobile 1 seem to be top choices.. stick to 1 of these??

IF you are going to increase intervals, suggest you get a oil analysis kit and have it tested to see if the oil stays useful

WOW, great stuff! Can you tell us what you are paying for the oil? I have an email in to a local truck performance house here in the Atlanta area for pricing and wondering if it is cheaper to get from your supplier.
Thanks!

It's usually cheaper to get it from the supplier because Schaeffer has a standing policy that any orders over $250 are shipped free! The oil itself is going for about $14.50 per gallon - about the same price as you'll pay for Shell Rotella T synthetic from China-Mart, and much less expensive than other synthetic competitors.
Even if you don't pruchase $250 worth of product, their shipping costs are very low. I believe my first order was for 12 gallons and shipping was around $10 bucks.
With the quantity of oil these diesels use, a $250 order isn't that much, especially when you combine it with some Schaeffer aluminum complex waterproof grease. You'll want their grease, trust me on this one.
A call to Mark at Specialized Lubricants in the morning will have the oil sitting outside your door two days later! Tell him Walt from Minnesota sent you. And no, I don't get anything for recommending the oil. He's just a good guy to do business with! |
