Hello Gentlemen
I've seen several conversations regarding the vacuum problems and wanted to add my last experience on that issue.
My front hubs did not lock when I had them on auto-mode, so for a while I had them turned on manually to lock-position. After reading about the issue from this exelent site I went under the truck today and found out that both vacuum lines were totally out of place from the wheel end. The lines were rubbed and then possibly popped out of place due to contact with the wheels. I have American Racing Mohave wheels and seems that they rubbed the vacuum lines.
That problem was easily solved by cutting a short pease off from the lines and reconnecting them.
The wheels will be changed as well - just bought 16.5x9.75 wheels with 33x12.5x16.5 BFG .

But one guestion came up while I checked the lines: There is a vacuum pump in right fender side that turnes on very frequently when I had the power on, engine not running, a/c off. Should I look for another leak as I don't remember hearing the pump turning on in such a fast frequency. The pump has one output ( the one fasing front, light colour plastic ) with no line connected to it. I couldn't find any loose line. Is that how it should be ?

winter regards

Hello again
I've driven the truck now for about 150 miles after fixing the vacuum lines from both sides.
The vacuum pump still turns itself on every 12 seconds and stays on for about 6 seconds. I think I would have noticed this sound ( I can well hear it to the cabin when engine is not running but the power is on ).
Does anyone has a link for a vacuum schematic / map of the lines ? Or has any comment if the pump should work like this ?

The 4WD works fine now with hubs turned to auto-position.
btw the mpg came down substantially after turning hubs back to auto-mode ( from 18.5 l/100 km down to 15.4 l/100 km )

And if any of the X-owners in the warmer climate happends to open their hood, please let me know, if one of the outputs in the vacuum pump SHOULD be open ( with no connected line ).

Ok after examining all the vacuum lines I end up to the guess that the leak is in the part in front of the vacuum pump in the right fender.
No idea what the name could be for the part but its the one that has the red and black vacuum line connected to and had power input. Guess it regulates the 4WD hubs.
It has th enumbers in the yellow top: PA66-GF33
and on the side: F31A
9H465-8A
007D0293

Could this be a source for a leak ?
I disconnected one by one all the vacuum line connections and this seemed to be the one keeping the pump pumping = leak.

Any thoughts please ?
