What kind of mileage is everyone getting with their V10's. I have a 2000 4x4 with v10 and getting 9.5 mpg running 55 to 60 mph. Has 53,000 miles

Thanks
Jim

On the road-if I did 55-60 (which I do not) mileage around 15-16. At 80--around13.5. Mine is a 4X2 so that's a big difference. ALso may be the type ratio in the rear end making a difference. You can do a search on the board for mo re info.

I also have a 2000, V10, 4x4, with 3:73 rear end. I get about 15-16 mpg if running 55-60.

I have the same truck as Andy.... I'm averaging 11.9 mpg. I can get around 14 highway at 74 mph. I get about 9 mpg towing a 10K pound load of firewood.

Those numbers are all via the lie-o-meter, but I don't really care about actual mileage, just relative mileage. I want to know when it changes. Also, I run 285s and others have found that 285s make the lie-o-meter much more truthful.

My 2000 V-10 Limited 4x4 3.73 (had it since new) gets 12.2 mpg local & 16.2 mpg on long trips at 70-75 mph.

It drops when Hubby drives it, but then I get better mpg on his F350 PSD, SuperDuty Crew Dually, 4x4, LB also. He tends to "feather" as he calls it (used to be a truck driver before a state trooper) & I tend to hold steady.

That's pretty low compared to the averages out there, Jim.

Thanks for the replies.

Monsta,

The tires that I have are the stock size. I have a K and N filter also. I drive very steady on the gas and no jack rabbit starts. I think I will try synthetic oil next week. This truck runs great but milage is not good. Even on a trip on the interstate only got about 10 and a half MPG. Any othre ideas?

~Make sure your front hubs are not locked. Even if it is on AUTO, they sometimes stick. Reach behind the wheel and see if you can turn the half-shafts by hand.

~Consider getting rid of that K&N and going back to the stock paper. Clean the Mass Air Flow sensor. It is that thin wire you'll see on the engine side of the intake snorkel. BE VERY CAREFUL! Use alcohol or something similar and a cotton ball or Q-tip.

~Use Motorcraft's 5W/20 Semi synthetic oil. Cheap and very good stuff. Don't let the "20" fool you as it does so many others.

~When did you change the tranny fluid last? You should be coming up on it's SECOND change. Make sure you drain the whole thing, not just the tranny.

~What tire pressures are you running? Try going at least 60F & 65R.
