When I first got my 2000 Powerstroke excursion last year I didn't have any trouble with it accepting fuel as fast as I could put it in. The last couple of months, it takes forever to fill as I have to trickle it in. I can't even use the slowest setting on the pump handles. Any help would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks..

Sounds like your fuel tank vent is clogged. This allows the air to leave the tank as the fuel enters.

And while you got your tank out to clear it, you can do the fuel tank vent mod
you remove the vent tube and shorten it from the LONG length it is to about two inches
then you can fill up right to the brim 2 full speed

All,
I harpooned our tank and this mod is excellent, but a word of caution is in order. Diesel nominally weighs eight pounds per gallon. Yes, temperature affects it quite a bit, it can weigh, but for the sake of this post I'll use this higher eight pound figure. If you run the tank down to five gallons the fuel alone in the tank will weigh forty pounds. Ten gallons will weigh eighty. When you add on the weight of the skid plate and tank you're talking about a lot of weight to have to awkwardly balance on a jack...
Once having done the mod you will get more fuel and be done filling up more quickly. We just took a road trip and with an 1/8th of a tank still indicating, trip computer saying like thirty or so miles to empty; I loaded forty-five gallons filling to the top of the neck. The singular thing that slows you down is the foaming of the fuel as it is splashing into the tank in the earlier stages of fueling. As you top it off that foam will come up the fill tube causing you to have to stop fueling and wait for the foam to subside.
Now, if I could just come up with a chemical that a couple of drops in the tank (Like Beano on your beans...) would stop that foaming, with no "operational or maintenance complications," I could really fuel up fast!
Regards,
Phil |
