First off, STOP YELLING! (not sure if you are aware, but in the online world, all caps means you are yelling at someone)
Well, I can give you some of my pros and cons for the 6.0L X. I tow a 35' Sierra (7,900/lb. dry and 10,900 gvwr) You can see my comined weight below. I travel with a wife and 3 kids and bikes and baggage to match each of us. Ok,
PROS: This thing simply kicks A$$, hills, mountains, down grades (thanks to the 5 speed Torqueshift tranny's Tow/Haul mode on 03's & up). I run mine stock and have all the power I need for now. Comes mated with the 5 speed Torqueshift tranny. I love this tranny!
CONS: Very few, other than watch out for the early build 6.0's, some have problems. Most kinks are or have been worked out. A lot of debate on whether the 6.0 is as reliable as the 7.3L, you will have to make up your own mind thru research on that one. I love mine at 36+k on it now. Fuel filter is harder to change and drain water from what I have read than the 7.3.
Get an OASIS report done on both types (especially early 04 & back 6.0's) before you purchase. Most dealers will accomodate you on this Watch out for "Buy Backs". These are problematic vehicles that were bought back by the factory to avoid the 'lemon law'. They (hopefully) fix the problem and put back on the lot. You can tell these by a CarFax report or OASIS report.
Good luck with your purchase! Which ever route you take, you will love the room of the X. It will swallow your family whole!!

An OASIS report is a history of the Ford vehicles repairs (done at Ford service centers). It will tell you if all of the Recalls have been done and any other repairs that have been made under warranty (and not under warranty for that matter). You can have this run by giving a Ford service center the VIN of the vehicle you are looking to purchase. There are sites on line that will run these for you as well, I can't remember them off the top of my head though. I am sure there will be someone on the board here that can steer you in the right direction there. I had a buddy here run mine and the dealer did too. A CarFax report can be run at http://www.carfax.com This will give you title history such as leans, wrecks and so forth. Usually will cost about $20 per report or you can pay $25 and get unlimited VIN searches for a month. If there is anything funky about the vehicle it will show up here. For instance, I bought my 04 X from a Ford dealer here in Georgia as a factory buyback. The dealer told me this up front as soon as I started to look at the vehicle. I will bet you some won't! When I ran the CarFax report on this it showed the original purchase from the dealer, then about 8 months later it was sold to someone in Detroit, MI! Hmm, who could that have been! The OASIS report also confirmed this and told me why the factory bought it back (which I was comfortable with, and after a few attempts the problem was resolved). If you are looking at one from a Ford dealer, make them supply the report for you. I did not even have to ask my dealer.

just my two cents, but i am driving my fourth 7.3 and have never had the first problem. i drive about 26k a year and have pulled the max weight numerous times without a problem.
i have had numerous friends buy the 6.0, 03 thru 05 and have had to visit the dealer numerous times for repairs.
two friends traded them for used 7.3's. |

my two cents while sharing a beer ....
the ONLY 7.3 Ex I had was a problem... Ford bought it back...
so in the 'I have a friend' logic, that makes ALL 7.3's bad in my experience.... correct ?
have since had two 6.0 limiteds and run them like DOGS and love em....
It's more a factor of the particular truck/engine and YOUR experience and needs....
as usual, the comparison threads degrade into what you see

last summer try 4 bikes on back of trailer and lost them on i-75 up in michigan, what a mess. |

Tough break on the 03 you were looking at! You'll find a good one. They are easy to fall in love with. I have had mine for just over 1 year and have put 29k miles on it myself. I still look forward to gettin' in it in the morning and driving to work and gettin' back in at the end of the day and driving home I especially look forward to our camping trips! We are hauling up to Wisconsin at the end of May.
As far as the bikes go, I had the dealer weld a 4" receiver hitch on the frame and bumper of the camper when I bought it. I also made him kick-in a 4 bike hauler for the receiver. I have not lost a bike yet! (where's the wood?) Right now I can get away with 4 because one of the kids is 3 and his tiny bike fits in back of the X. Not sure at the moment what I'll go with when the bikes get BIGGER!

6 oil spots? coulda negotiated with the seller and knocked the price down to cover the cost of fixing these leaks...
I bought my 01 Limited X at 104,000 miles with 2 small oils spots that show up over night on the driveway....I can/should get it fixed for about $175...but have not had time or concern enough to do so. yet.
I have 163,000 on it now and no engine problems so far...except the 2 small spots.

Hi
If it's a 7.3L thats leaking, check the Turbo hose clamps at the base of the Turbo, mine Ex started to leak and a friend who know's 7.3's pointed this fix out to me, just tightened the clamps and no more leaks. Another know leak on 7.3 is the oil pump housing seal, typically a $300 bill at the Ford Dealer. |
