ABS light is on and I'm going to have to replace the left front speed sensor on a 2000 4WD as per ABS scan. Tried replacing rear VSS first with no luck.
Anybody have any tips? Should I go ahead and replace both front sensors and repack left and right wheel bearings or wait for the right sensor to go?
I also need the torque spec for the final wheel bearing adjustment if anybody knows off hand.
Thanks.

I had the same thing happen on my 02. In my case the wire came loose and the tire burned the wire. Thats a long story from the stealership that worked on it. Ya. Anyway, I replaced it and the light was still on just sitting in my garage at idle. I later discovered though the internet that the abs sensor should clear the light after a few miles of driving. And that it need movement / wheel spin to detect and reset. I drove it for oh, maybe 5-8 miles and the light went off. I also, checked to see if it had and codes and there was nothing showing. I got it at fordparts.com they had a good price on it and it comes as a whole assembly in one with sensor grease and a new bolt. It stinks to replace it becuase a lot of stuff has to come off as i recall, tire, rotor, caliper, and dust shield. It was easy, just a lot of bs work to get to a small bolt holding it in place.
Also, you may want to try this, I hooked an ohm meter up to both sensors. My drivers side one was the one that was bad, but when I ohm'd the bad side i got no reading, while on the good side I got a ohm reading. I simply unpluged the connectors while truck was off and checked it like that at the sensor. Just take the two point tips from the ohm meter and stick it in there, they should fit no problem/ Its been fine ever since, ive also head of that if the sensor is caked up with dirt and such it can cuase the light to go on, due to it not being able to detect wheel spin, but this is in a car application. You might try the ohm meter suggestion and see what you get. Its worth a shot.

Had an ABS system code check run today. Front drivers side is bad just like yours. Code was P1155 LF and P1158 LF sensor coherency fault if anyone is interested.
Please disregard questions in post regarding torque specs. I was looking at a 2X4 parts diagram instead of the 4X4 with the sealed bearing.
Gonna order a new speed sensor and put it in this weekend.
Here's one for you though. The service tech also informed me that all wheels are reading 3MPH when the truck is parked. ???????
