I will be getting new tires soon and would like to see if I can get some data on what kind of mileage folks are getting and what size tires they are running. I have 295/75R16 and am getting 14 mpg city.

If you can respond with:

Tire size:
Fuel mileage over all:
Fuel mileage city:
Fuel mileage highway:

If there are enough responses, I will be happy to collect data and put in a spreadsheet and make available for all.

Thanks for all the help,

Don't pay attention to my mpg that much....
and there are so many variables it would be hard to "avg" it across multiple users...

the right foot and engine and topography are probably the biggest factors in mpg...

However, in general and to a point, bigger is usually heavier which usuallly gives less mpg.... in general

I've stayed stock on all three of my ex's (haven't kept them long enough to WEAR out tires yet

We're running with 285 BFG TKO's

If I drive the Excursion 15-16 around town and 20-21+ on the freeway,if the wife is operating it deduct 2-3 mpg

Good to see another member from Spring......

I'm running the Michelin LTX M/S on my 2wd 2001 PSD X. They have about 16-18K on them and they look like I can easily get 100K out of them.

With the tuner, exhaust, and intake:
Tire size: LT 265/75/16
Fuel mileage over all: roughly 18-19
Fuel mileage city: 17.5 mpg
Fuel mileage highway: 20-21mpg

Stock
Tire size: LT 265/75/16
Fuel mileage over all: roughly 17
Fuel mileage city: 15-16.5 mpg
Fuel mileage highway: 17.8mpg

If you plan on doing some mods, your X is down and/or you need some help, send me an e-mail and I'll be there to help.

Yes, it is good to see another one of us here in Spring!

Thanks for the info. I think I need to reduce my tire size when I replace them.

Thank you for the offer and same goes for me, if you need any help, let me know.

Shannon,
Don't forget that your mileage isn't exactly accurate unless you've adjusted your odometer for the bigger tire size as well. I'm not sure if the other numbers people have given are corrected or not.

My example is more extreme than many, but when my stock tires wore out I went with 285/75R16's and now that they were worn down I put 37"s on my truck. By using the odometer my mileage has gone down with each tire change. Which in fact it might have, but not to the extreme the odometer says. The stock tires my '01 came with were roughly 30" diameter tires and my current tires are 37". If for the sake of argument we forget the settling in the contact patch, then with every rotation of the tire I travel 23% farther than I did with my stock tires. So if my odometer says 11mpg, I really got 13.5mpg.

Just make sure that you are comparing mpg apples to apples...

C3GALXE,

Thank you for pointing this out, it is a very important part of the equation. I found this out the hard way, but was pleasantly surprised, as, like you said, the mileage I was getting was higher than I thought. Since then I have adjusted, as best I can estimate.

With 295/75R16's my speedometer reads about 10% less than actual (I tested this with a watch and mile markers, going down the highway at different speeds for a mile at a time). So, when figuring MPG I add 10% to my odometer reading.

I will say, if you are getting 13.5 mpg in the city with 37" tires, that's not bad.

Thanks,

good catch....

but a mile at a time is probably too small to be accurate....

reset your odometer at a mile markere and go about 10 miles to ensure an accurate reading...then you can compare it to your odometer reading to get a more accurate adjustment factor...
