I have wanted clearance lights for my X since I got it. I have seen them on some before and I see them on CHPMustang's truck here. Did any of your trucks come with them? If not, did you have the dealer install them?

Any help/advice would be appreciated, my truck is getting tall enough that I actually need them.
Thanks,

Installing the lights aren't that bad at all,I know most people cringe with the thought of popping holes in the roof but once the lights are installed you'll quickly forget about the holes

I don't know anyone yet that had the dealer install em on their Excursions but some of the SuperDuty owners did contract the install with their dealer, the cost was under $150 if I recall.

So CHP, I have a few more questions if you don't mind:
when you did it, did you have to drop the headliner?
Did your wiring harness already have the wires in the loom for them?
Do the amber lenses pop off to change bulbs?
How long did it take to finish the job?
Thanks!

We installed the cab roof lamps back in December 2002 and yes I dropped the headliner from the front to just over the second row seating due to I was also installing 2 Way communications antennas at the same time.

Unfortunately the Excursion's wire harness does not come with the pigtail like the SuperDuty trucks do but it's no big deal as I tapped the running lamps circuit behind the headlight switch.

The Ford OEM lamp lenses are held to the base by a phillips(4-point)screw.

Not counting the antennas I think it took us 2-3 hours for the complete install but we did go the extra distance and silicone sealed the lamp bases for maximum water intrusion protection.

Never hurts to ask

I think im going to go with the Dodge lights as they are smaller and not as tall as the Ford ones, I think that the lights should look good at night and be invisable in the day, but thats me. If I could find black ones then I would install them instead, but no luck as of yet in finding them... good luck to you

It really is all about size!!!!!!

The mod list is still growing, I took back the running board lights I had bought from Wal-Mart, I am saving $$ for the LED strips.

I'd like to add the line of fire above the rear bumper

I'm probably repeating a post by someone else, but here's a link to a place that offers a ton of LED light accessories. They also provide a good explanation why some applications don't work as well as one might hope.
